Evil Eyes, Pro Swag and ALOHA Upcoming Bucket List Races

Evil Eyes, Pro Swag and ALOHA Upcoming Bucket List Races

Happy Thursday!

I got the double evil eye very early this morning.

2014-05-29 06.11.20

Not sure what was going on there at 5:30 am, but it helped me get on the treadmill a little quicker than normal.

Ran seven easy miles.

Tomorrow is a rest day and then I have the shake out run Saturday morning. Who’s coming?

Even if you’re not running the SUJA Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon you can still come meet up with us.

The boys and I even went to the Pro Compression office the other day to pick up some swag for the run.

Yeah, it was like compression heaven up in there. We just picked up a few goodies to give away after the run on Saturday though. Here’s a preview.

Cool huh?

We’re also getting some Halo gear, NuttZo to-go packets, Nuun and a couple other things. Fun!

Last night we did the roasted zoodles thing again. I got a little help making the zoodles. (He’s getting really good at it by the way.)

2014-05-28 18.43.36

I put them on a pan covered with aluminum foil and sprayed with cooking spray. Drizzled some olive oil on them and then sprinkled garlic, garlic salt and parmesan cheese.

I roasted them at 425 for about 30 minutes or so. Served them up for the family with some spinach tortellini from Trader Joe’s.

Easiest dinner ever.

These two things are always out during dinner.

I polished off those red chilies, but I think the jalapeño slices will last awhile. Hopefully at least until my home grown chilies are ready. They’re slowly coming along.

The basil is making up for it though. Nothing beats adding fresh basil to meals.

While I’m chatting food, here’s my breakfast from this morning.

2014-05-29 09.21.13

Chicken apple sausage and kale egg white scramble with a SunButter and blueberry whole grain sandwich on the side. (I just stick frozen blueberries in the middle before I put the bread in the sandwich maker.) Delish.

Okay, back to running and race chat.

Shea just asked about recovery running in between intervals. I’m not an expert (obviously), but coaches have told me the recovery pace in between repeats or intervals should be really easy. They suggest walking or an easy jog. It probably differs for everyone.

I got another question about tapering. I haven’t been following a training plan for the race this weekend because I’m using it as more of a training run. I’m not going for a PR and haven’t even set any time goals. I’d just like to run, have fun and feel good.

Honestly, I’m just so thankful that the Boston 2 Big Sur Challenge went as well as it did (recaps from both races are here) and I’m not ready to push things yet. I’m not mentally or physically there and that’s okay. I don’t have any big goals for this weekend, just hopefully getting to the start line on time. Kidding.

So yes, I haven’t really been following the suggested 2-3 week taper and I’m using the race this weekend as a training run. I’m really excited to run the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon. It was the first race I got a BQ time at two years ago and last year I couldn’t run because I was injured, so this year I just want to go have fun and take all the excitement in.

Um, and with that, let me tell you about some other really exciting races coming up this summer.

I registered for two new races last week.

Destination races. Races that are on my bucket list.

The first one is The San Francisco Marathon with CLEAR Me.

I ran it two years ago also, again couldn’t run it last year after buying an entry because of my injury. This year I’m so excited to go back. It’s one of my favorite races and we get to run across the Golden Gate Bridge. Woo hoo!

And, I just read this article yesterday that the San Francisco Marathon is offering FREE race photos this year. How cool is that? I better work on my weird race face. Ha.

The second one is The Kauai Marathon.

Eeeeekkkkkk!!!!! I’m so unbelievably excited about this. It’s been on my bucket list and heck I guess 2014 is the year of checking off some bucket list races.

Yes, I’m pinching myself.

Who wants to go to Kauai this year? Here’s a video on the awesomeness of the race to help try to convince you to come run with me. He he.

There’s also a short promo video here also that has both Bart Yasso and Dean Karnazes chatting about the race. Can’t wait to bump into those guys again.

I’m trying to not get too excited about this race as it’s still seems far away, but ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

Okay, well, I’ve got a little travel planning to do. I kind of wish someone would do all that for me. I’m not good at it at all. It makes me nervous and takes me forever to decide things.

Here’s a little Thursday motivation to leave you with.

I saw this on the Live With Kelly and Michael instagram feed.

2014-05-29 07.29.24

Love it. Also love Kelly’s abs. She’s a rock star.

In memory if the great Maya Angelou, I found this quote on pinterest.

Maya Angelou... 'Still I Rise'

Defeats are necessary so we can rise up. I’ve had my share and I’m sure I still have my fair share to come. Love this outlook.

And just one more from Jesus Calling this morning.

Accept every situation, even the difficult ones as a gift. Easy to say, hard to do sometimes.

Have a wonderful day!

What destination race is on your bucket list?

Any locals coming to run with us this Saturday?

Who’s running the SUJA Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon this Sunday?

My favorite marathon I’ve ever done–I LOVE the Kauai Marathon! So excited for you! Actually we are in Kauai this week, so I have been running sections of the course. Unfortunately, it’s a little harder in some places without the roads being closed to traffic.

You will LOVE the Kauai marathon!! I did the full in 2012 and the half in 2013. The hills are pretty brutal especially the second half of the full, but you’ll run through rainbows and when you’re up in Kalaheo, the views are ridiculously beautiful and to finish along the ocean is pretty hard to beat. Makes me homesick!!!

Speaking of Shakas!!!! Bring me, bring me. So Jelly! I get to go back home for the Honolulu full in December. Born and raised in Haleiwa, whenever my mainland friends ask me where to go in hawaii, HANDS down, I say Kauai (or Maui)… Haha! It was a miracle there was no pidgin in that video!

I’m running the SF marathon too, fun! I’m a little nervous for the hills, but I’ve been trying to add as many as I can to my training runs. Kauai I’m very jealous of! It’s so beautiful there. And it’s not that far off, it’s only a month after SF marathon!

I would definitely love to run a marathon in Hawaii, I’d also love to travel to another country for a race….like Italy. That would be my dream.

Yay!!!!! Hopefully we see each other in SF!!!!!! The hills aren’t too bad and they’re at the beginning. 🙂

      • Laura P says:

Oh good, that makes me feel a little bit better! I’m sure you’ll be way ahead of me in one of the first corrals, but I would love to say hi!

I’ll be there on Sunday! First marathon in over 8 years (36th all time). I’d love to do the Kauai Marathon. It’s my favorite island. It does look like we’re heading to the Honolulu Marathon in December though. I’m excited because it was my first back in 1996.

Awesome! I’ll be running the SF Marathon as the 2:00 pacer for the 1st half marathon! After I finish, I’m going to shuttle it to the finish and run the course backwards to take pictures of our running group’s pacers (I did it last year and I hope they let me do that again!). I’ll be looking for you 🙂
