I bet you’re already pretty much starting your weekend, yes?
First off I have a move from class last night. I totally forgot how awesome plank push ups are. Yep. Love them. Here you go.
You can modify them on your knees. Someone told me to try them on a BOSU. I’m going to have to experiment with that next.
I didn’t set an alarm this morning. I slept in. I was working on recovering.
When I finally got my act together I went for a run outside.
I didn’t really have a goal or time in mind. I just wanted to see how my legs felt since the race last week. They definitely weren’t loving or ready for the hills today.
They were ready to take it slow and easy though. My new thing is having to stop to pick up any coins I find on the ground. The boys get so excited when I come home them. Today it was a penny.
It got a bit warm out there and I didn’t have any water or anything with me, but it was just really nice to be outside.
Everyone recovers differently from races and everyone’s body has different needs. It’s all about figuring out what works for you and what doesn’t.
Here’s a pretty funny article from Dean Karnazes on recovery.
I like him even more now. He he.
While we’re talking recovery I threw together a new Vega Sport recovery drink today immediately after getting home from my run. I love making my new recovery drink after long runs when I’m home. Today we were out of kale and spinach so I decided to go for the next best thing.
Oh yes I did. I put some broccoli slaw in there. Not too much because the whole science behind the Vega Recovery Accelerator is that it has the correct ratio of carbs to protein that your body needs after a tough workout.
I took one serving of the recovery accelerator, about a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (I never measure), a handful of broccoli slaw, crushed ice and water and blended it right up in the NutriBullet.
It was magnificent.
I’ve been creating a few other things lately also.
In the kitchen I created this gem yesterday.
I made the 120 calorie dark chocolate muffin (only one sweetener packet), then added a Cookies and Cream Quest Bar. When I sat down for it later at night I topped it with some of that Cookies and Cream Arctic Zero.
Be ready for a little frozen giveaway to kick off things next week!
Other random creative things that we’re pretty proud of around here are some cool new masks we made. We now have two of them, but should have a full set of four soon for the whole family.
I tried to make helping me clean the floor fun. This guy really enjoyed his “towel skating” time.
We got really creative yesterday when we thought of a plan to hide from Daddy in our tent and then surprise him when he got home from work.
Don’t mind my salad in the picture.
The plan worked perfectly.
It gave us a little practice time too since we have some really big plans to go camping this weekend. We might even take things outside to the backyard. We’ll see. I can’t remember the last time I slept in a tent.
In just a few short weeks I’ll be sleeping somewhere new for one night only and it doesn’t involve tent sleeping.
Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon and 1/2 is officially on the calendar. I’ve never been to Seattle so I’m pretty darn excited.
Have a wonderful weekend! Hope you get lots of recovery sleeping time!
If you have any tent camping tips please send them my way. I think we’re going to need all the help we can get.
Have you ever been to Seattle?
