A Couple Throwback Pictures and Fuel Better With This Single Serving Vega Blueberry Protein Muffin


Well hello! The boys just had their last day of preschool. Let the summer mayhem begin. I took full advantage of the last quiet morning I’ll have for awhile. Ha.

Last night I wrote myself some new alarm messages for a little extra motivation.

I ended up having a terrible night’s sleep though. Maybe my self messaging wasn’t a good idea.


I got on the treadmill by 5:30 or so. I passed up my planned speed work session for the second day in a row and did a progression run instead.

Yes, I still have the tag on my shoe and yes, I also had one sock inside out this morning. Classy.

I started out at an 8:20 pace or so and then for miles 5-10 I increased the MPH by .2 each mile. Then ran one more mile as a cool down.

After showering and getting the boys ready I took a little Vega on the road with my new recovery drink (recovery accelerator blended with kale or spinach, apple cider vinegar, water and ice) to drop the boys off and run a few errands.

I thought I’d jump on the throwback Thursday train today since it’s the last day of school and all and show you a couple stellar pictures.

Here’s the boys three years ago during one of our many Costco shopping trips.

Yep, that’s right. I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs throughout life too. From being a small teenage gymnast to this and pretty much everywhere in between as well. I have had times of just not being very kind to myself.

It’s never too late to make a change friends. I could get all mushy and such, but I’ll save that for another time.


So, you’ve probably picked up on the fact that I love Vega products. In fact, way back when, one of the very first recipe videos the boys and I made used Vega protein powder.

Since we’re on the whole throw back Thursday train now, you can see our video HERE. It makes me smile. Oh gosh, those were the days with “my boyfriend” Bob Harper and taping his workout videos too. Where has the time gone?



I got a very special package of all my favorite Vega Sport products recently.


I use the Vega recovery accelerator on a regular basis and always have at least one Vega Sport gel with me for my races.

I was also sent a couple of their new snack bars and Saviseeds.


Obviously I went for the cocoa kissed Saviseed pack right away.


I’ve never heard of sacha inchi seeds before, but I can tell you that I am now a fan after consuming a pack (or two).


I could have just eaten them out of the bag, but I added them to brown rice cereal. I topped it with a little PB2 before adding some unsweetened coconut milk also, but that was after the picture.

They are delicious! If you like peanut M & M’s, but want a healthy option, you will love these.


I already knew that the Vega Sport Protein powder made delicious smoothies, so I figured I had to experiment a little more with it.

Since we were all about baking those new muffins last weekend, I took it upon myself to make some single serving blueberry protein ones too.


It came out well and everyone loves muffins, especially healthy, huge, single serving blueberry ones, right?

I actually made one again this morning in the microwave just to make sure it was blog worthy.


It is. It is also marvelous topped with NuttZo, but then again, isn’t everything?

    Apple berry accelerator is my favorite, I mix half/half with vanilla rice protein and have it almost every day.
    Where do you buy the Scotty B’s sweet bacon jalepeno, do you have to order it online?

    I love your alarm messages, I have some similar ones and I have to say they only work about half the time to motivate me to get up early! But half the time is better than none of the time, right? I added a few smiley faces to make me feel a little more encouraged. That muffin looks good, too bad I ate all my frozen blueberries last night for a snack – believe it or not they are really good plain with just a little almond/coconutmilk splashed on top. Like berries and cream but no cream, I guess.

    Okay I didn’t even know you could write messages on your alarm….I might have to try that.
    Your muffin looks awesome. I am definitely going to try that. I don’t use Vega, but I use Shakeology so maybe I will try it that way.
    My kids still have one week left of school. We are going crazy, just so ready to be done.

    Random question- do you typically eat anything before your early morning runs? Running first thing is idea timng for me but I usually wake up hungry so my runs feel sluggish if I don’t eat. If I do eat I always feel like it’s going to come back up. 🙁 any tips?

      I don’t. I wish I had some tips, but it’s pretty much different for everyone. I would have 1/2 a banana or something that you can digest really easily.

    Hey there! I just wanted you to know how much this post has encouraged me this morning. I have been using myfitnesspal to track my calories /exercise to lose weight. I am currently 162.2..started m fitnesspal on April 1st at 171. I have been stuck for about 3 weeks and the weight wont budge .I am currently eating 1200 calories/ a day..maybe a little more one day out of the week..usually Sunday(we go out to eat after church) but even then I try to make wise choices. I have been smaller but only with the help of diet pills ( I took when I was 19yrs old.) Now at 39, I know better! Do you have any tips for me I this weight loss journey or can you post about weight loss how to’s?

      Oh goodness, I’m not really one to give dietary advice since it’s not in my scope of practice as a personal trainer, but I do know there is no way I’d survive on 1200 calories a day. I would say eating as clean as possible and staying away from processed foods are key though. I owe you an email don’t I?

    I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but I don’t think there was anything wrong with you in that picture from 2000. You said yourself that you were a petite gymnast. Gymnastics is notoriuosly known for stunting growth in females and probably did a number to your metabolism.

    Either way I don’t think you looked bad in that picture at all and I hope you are not too hard on yourself now because of it.

      HI Dolly- I don’t think there’s anything wrong either. Didn’t mean for it to come across that way. I DO know though that at that stage in my life I was NOT taking good care of myself. I was making poor choices, I was tired all the time, I wasn’t happy, etc. I ate to cover up emotions. If I looked like that now, but knew I was taking good care of myself I would have no issues with it. Does that make sense? 🙂

    I agree with Dolly, I think you looked great with a few extra pounds. Skinner is not always better. And no I’m not some overweight “hater,” I’m petite myself but often think I’d look better with a few extra pounds too.

      Thanks Nikki- Didn’t mean to post that picture to say that skinnier is better. In fact, I don’t think that’s the case at all. I would rather look like that if that was my healthy weight mentally and physically. I did NOT treat myself well back then and did not take care of myself the way I should have. I was smiling on the outside, but not happy on the inside. Long story…….. Thanks though for your comment and I agree with you! 🙂
