My First Encounter, The Perfect Ending and One Heck of an Amazing Video

Was I really in Seattle last week? I swear this past week has been a blur. it was probably right about now that I was on my back with the worst calf cramp of my life. Holy smokes. Which reminds me, I still have some other fun from that trip I want to show you. Tomorrow.

This week has been a little tough. I’d like to try to hide it on here, but I’m not really that great at that. I was very thankful for big hats and big sunglasses yesterday morning. It was just one of those days. We all have them.

I had a little chunk of time in the afternoon so I hopped on the elliptical at home for 25 minutes. Sometimes all you need is 25 minutes.

I can’t believe that thing still works by the way. This cheap, battery powered elliptical from Sears has done very well. It’s rigged a bit, so I’m not sure how much longer it will last, but it’s getting the job done for now.

This morning I woke up early to get back on it. I was tempted to run, but decided to give my foot another day. It’s definitely feeling better though thank goodness.

Today I did the elliptical for almost an hour.

I worked up quite the sweat fest.

Taught a boot camp class at the park and then when on a trail walk to take advantage of a little time outside.

Found a bench, felt the need to do a plank. Totally normal I’m sure.

Then I had my first ever experience with a rattlesnake.

Ugh. I hate rattle snakes and one of my biggest fears with being on trails is finding them.

This one even rattled at me as I went by. I might have nightmares tonight.

Came home to this going on in the backyard.

I cant’ help but smile.

I’m hoping to get a little pool running in tomorrow. I’m taking things one day at a time with this foot over here.

Yesterday afternoon we went to the beach.

I have yet to go in the water this year since I’m a baby when it comes to water being too cold, but these guys had a blast.

In full disclosure I am also scared of sting rays and am not a fan of seaweed. There was a lot of it yesterday.

Highlights of the trip were watching Daddy dive in the waves,

getting burried

and going out for pizza afterwards.

We love Leucadia Pizzeria.

We go the antipasto salad to share.

Then we each got our own pizzas. I went with a create your own – whole wheat no cheese tomato, roasted garlic, jalapeño and fresh basil pizza not to eat all by myself.

It was the perfect way to end the week.

Your pizza sounds good (I would add cheese though).
I’ve killed rattle snakes – in college I spent my summers working at a girl scout camp (funny since I was never a girl scout – but my grandparents were the camp rangers). This was in west TX and rattle snakes are common. When we took the girls on hikes, we always carried hoes (to kill snakes). I got to use mine – one person puts there hoe on the snake and then the other (me!!) gets to chop the head off.

I would completely freak out if I saw a rattlesnake on a run! I would probably run a whole lot faster though!

I really like pepperoncini on pizza. We get a pizza every once in a while that has mushrooms, onions and meatballs – very NY, very delicious.

I’m glad you and your foot are feeling better! Also, that you have been getting plenty of quality family time in, your boys are so adorable! What does your normal elliptical workout look like? I’ve been thinking of trying out the elliptical this week and would love some suggestions!

Hi there! I just got back from FitBloggin’ in Savannah this weekend and I was told I MUST read your blog. Apparently we have a lot in common – running our butts off, teaching fitness classes and twins. I have identical twin boys who are 5 and they are insane but the loves of my life – and I’m sure you feel the same. I look forward to reading more about you 🙂

EEK!!! I would have never had the chance to take a picture of that snake–I would have been long gone…and I’m not a runner!! You are very brave to have taken the time to take the picture. My fear of snakes and other creepy crawly things is also why I do not go swimming, unless it is in a pool so I can see what’s in the water.

OMG your pizza sounds like it’s right up my alley!! I have an insane fear of snakes that I’m fairly certain stems back to when I was 4. We were at my grandparents house and I had just learned about lizards. We were all outside at sunset and I got all excited and yelled, “Look mom it’s a lizard!!” My mom calmly told me that it was not a lizard and that it was a rattlesnake and do not move and she will come to get me. I don’t really remember the incident but I’ve been told it a million times. I wasn’t scared of snakes before then, so I’m fairly certain that was the start of my fear haha!
