Superheroes, a Squat and a Sweet Hot Chicken Sausage Salad

Random funny thing just happened.

I dropped the boys off at Mom’s house and was going to mail a package for my bro. I saw the mailman driving by on my parent’s street, so naturally I stopped, waved him down and went running to him with my package in hand.

I asked if he would take my package for me. Turns out, he was the same mailman who delivers our mail. He laughed and said yes. Then he looked around kind of confused and asked, “Were you following me?”

I said “no” and tried to explain that my parents lived close by (we live about a mile from them), but I’m not sure he was convinced. I think he may be worried that I was following him around. Funny stuff though.

Weird, but the fact that I could give my package to him and save myself a trip to the post office was a huge highlight in my day.

Another highlight of my day related to mail is this delivery that just happened.

Ha. Always a great day when the huge jugs arrive.

This morning did not go as planned. No early wake up. No early treadmill run.

Instead I got a visit from some pretty awesome early rising superheroes.

They were all about wearing those outfits around the house this morning.

I hopped on the elliptical for an hour a little bit later.

Then taught a BOSU/HIIT class at the gym.

Here’s a fun move from today.

Plié with a front shoulder raise.

Squat down holding weight in front. Lift weight overhead slowly, lower down and then come out of the squat. For a more advanced version, lift your heels up as you lift the weight overhead.

Here’s a very short video demo for you.

In case this isn’t working you can see the video HERE on my YouTube channel. I don’t want you to miss the squat. Ha ha.

Here are the makings of my chicken sausage salad creation today that was pretty darn delicious.

Yep. It was a good start to lunch. I’m currently addicted to that butter lettuce from Trader Joe’s.

I wasn’t sure if my favorite chicken apple sausages would go well with hot and sweet salad dressing, but it did. And a little of that Trader Joe’s South African Smoke Seasoning and Scotty B’s bacon jalapeño hot sauce make just about anything delicious.

So simple. So good.

I followed it up with a bazillion brown rice cakes smothered in peanut free NuttZo and blueberries. NO pictures though. Too busy eating. Ha.

Okay, short and sweet today. Less is more, right?

The boys and I have some big plans for the evening so I better get on it.

And gosh darn it, I also better go to bed on time. I’m in a seriously funk lately that I just can’t snap out of. I know it happens, but man, I hope I snap out of it soon.

Have a great rest of your night!

One more day to enter the Emergen-C 3-month supply GIVEAWAY!

What’s your favorite kind of lettuce? (Obviously mine is butter lettuce at the moment, but my second favorite is romaine.)

Do you have a fun squat variation to share? I’m ready for some new ones for my classes.

Hi Kristin.. Be kind to, and gentle with yourself.. Lots on your mind.. Just enjoy the boys.. Best therapy is hugs from them. I prefer romaine myself! Going to soup plantation with granddaughter & her mom tonite after step class.. Yumm

BFF’s your twins! Ummmm, the salad is missing some serious redness. Sumo squats on 2 bosu’s, one leg on each and holding a weight down. Or if you had a tire, same concept. One leg on either side of the tire, sumo squat, with weight in hands going down into the tire… I owe you my plank rendition when I’m there…

hahaha…I bet the mailman thought you were a little cray cray. Totally worth it to save the trip to the post office though ;) . That salad looks so delicious. I love a good salad mix. My favorite right now is romaine, spinach and arugula. Great move. I like any set of moves that combines squats and lunges.

Ooooh love the move! I’d have to go with romaine lettuce as a favorite but I usually don’t choose lettuce these days.
I can also smother a bunch of rice cakes with pb and eat it for days, haha.

That picture of your two superheroes is just the greatest! They look ready to rescue the world!

Lettuce doesn’t really thrill me for salads, I usually like a green with more oomph. I’m really wild about arugula or watercress: the more peppery the better!

Man that squat looks killa. I’ve been working the single-leg squat variations in an attempt to power-up my posterior! I’ve been seeing all these articles about “waking up your glutes” in the running magazines lately, and I’ve convinced myself that my rear-end is a slacker. Do you have any other good glute moves?
