They Always Get Me, a Plaque, Rock ‘n’ Roll LA Discount and Something I’m Trying

Before I get to any chit chat, here’s the winner of the Power O’s Giveaway.

#28 Lacey

Yay! Email me your mailing information Lacey and I’ll send it along to the awesome Love Grown Foods team.

I can’t believe it’s Wednesday already. What the?

Wait, and tomorrow is the last day of July already too? Eeeekkk…

Workouts so far this week have been minimal. I feel pretty good after the marathon Sunday and don’t have any foot pain or anything, but with America’s Finest City Half Marathon and The Kauai Marathon coming up next month, I’m taking advantage of a slower pace week.

I know I’ve said it before, but man, those post-race blues get me a little every time. It always takes just a few days, but they always come and slap me across the face. Today was the day. Isn’t that lovely?

I don’t know if I’ve shared this article or not before, but it’s a great one from Competitor Running that talks about why it’s important to recover after a marathon.

The Importance of Recovery After a Marathon

Unfortunately, not taking enough time to fully recover after a marathon often leads to overtraining and injuries. Not only does resting for seven to ten days have little negative impact on your current fitness, the long-term gains will outweigh any temporary reduction in fitness.

Learned that one the hard way.

The whole part about cellular damage is really interesting too. I didn’t know about that.

This week I’ve been teaching classes and and doing a little elliptical multi-tasking.

Last night we made taco salads with ground turkey meat.

They were awesome and I found those little single serving guacamole cups at Costco recently. I love those. I also love the HOT pico de gallo salsa from Trader Joe’s. If you haven’t tried it yet, you really should.

This afternoon was one where an iced coffee was not a “want”, it was a “need”.

For some reason it was much better out of a jar too instead of a glass or mug. I’m going to have to repeat this. Ha.

I got this plaque in the mail today from the SUJA Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon. Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series does not mess around with their age group plaques.

It’s so fancy. It was also very good timing. Needed that today.

Soon after the plaque arrived I added another race to my upcoming schedule.

RnR LA

Rock ‘n’ Roll Los Angeles 1/2 Marathon is October 26th. They’re going to have a costume contest. How cool is that?

Prices increase soon, so if you want to sign up use code: MAMAROCKSLA for $10 off the Half Marathon until Sunday, October 19 at 11:59pm PST

You have to dress up if you’re running a Halloween race, right?

A couple of other things we got recently that I keep forgetting to share are these awesome 6 Pack Fitness Bags.

Aren’t they cool?

Full review coming on them, but you can use code STUFT for 15% off any of the bags on their website just in case you need some for summer travel.

And, I’m off.

I’m TRYING to learn how to “enjoy” wasting time.

I’m working on it, but I find it’s kind of hard to do. Anyone else?

Iced coffee- better in a mug, a glass or a jar?

Does anyone else get antsy and sign up for new races during recovery week?

How was your day?

Proper recovery is so key. I haven’t done a good job at focusing on that in the past during marathon training, but this time around I am determined to do it the right way :) Good job for listening to your body and backing off a bit! Hope it helps!

I have the blues. I’ve drafted a race recap for SF that is only about a third of the way done. I ran 4 miles today just to keep training going. But yeah its been tough lately after races. Should I do RnRLA?

I like my iced coffee in any kind of container as long as it has a straw!

I pretty much always sign up for a new race within a couple weeks after a race. I can’t help myself!

My day was a little crazy. All the munchkins at work were trying to kill each other (and didn’t want to nap), so it was more exhausting than usual.

I totally agree that the cure to post race blues is to find another race. It doesn’t have to be right away, I’m looking at marathons for next spring. But just something to get you excited again!

This post reminded me that I needed to sign up for my RnR half before the price increases tomorrow, thanks! I like my iced coffee out of a fun cup so your jar is perfect!

I want to run my first half marathon and I live in southern California also, do you have any recommendations for a good first race? I don’t want it to be too large and overwhelming, and also not too hilly haha. Thank you!

There are a lot of good ones Devon. Carlsbad is fun in January. Pretty course and relatively flat. Let me know what time frame you’re looking at. :)

Darn I will be in Illinois in January. I go to college here in Thousand Oaks. I feel like I am pretty well trained to do a half at any time this school year but probably not december-january since like I said I will be back home during that time. Thank you for this help! Is the LA Halloween half that you posted a discount for a huge race?
