Dinner For STUFTS, the New and the Old and What You Didn’t Know About Sleep

Dinner For STUFTS, the New and the Old and What You Didn’t Know About Sleep

We had a darn good Sunday.

It was a rest day so the workout was kept to a minimum with some cleaning cardio cross training. I even enlisted some helpers.

We spent the rest of the afternoon and evening at a family birthday party.

Taco cart for the win! The in-laws know how to throw a good party.

“Dinner For STUFTS” totally makes me laugh because it makes me think of this movie. Ha ha. Also, I felt like a schmuck the other night when I had to search the blog to find this old recipe for Mom’s Tortellini Soup.

Ha. I hadn’t made it in forever and it was time. I did everything the same, but subbed in Trader Joe’s Sweet Italian Chicken Sausage and used lots zoodles for the zucchini.

Friends, this soup is so good.

You really must make it. Especially since it seems to be cooling down everywhere but here and it’s officially fall as of today.

The original recipe can be found here, but here’s an updated one just in case.

Totally random, but while we’re on the topic of dinner, has anyone ever followed this recipe that’s on the stalks they sell at Trader Joe’s?

I’ve been having roasted Brussels Sprouts regularly and I always want to try this recipe, but I haven’t. Just curious how the whole roasting the whole stalk goes.

Oh and since the weather isn’t really cooling down here at all yet, I’m still doing the salad thing for lunches pretty much daily. This one from today had a lot of the same ingredients as the soup. I marinated sliced zucchini with the same things I use in the cold zoodles (white balsamic, olive oil, crushed red pepper, garlic, garlic salt, Italian seasoning) and had them with chicken sausage on top of a salad of butter lettuce and spinach with a tomato, basil, humming balsamic dressing, crushed red pepper and Cholula.

Good stuff.

Let’s see. I had an awful night’s sleep last night. Of course I did because I didn’t have to wake up at a certain time. Non racing Sundays are the only days I don’t set my alarm. You’d think I’d sleep really well, but that is hardly ever the case.

I’d like to blame this though.

No, not that, I love our new butler, but this……

I mean, right?

The boys and Daddy came home with all sorts of fun stuff yesterday a good friend was giving away. No girls or mommies were allowed at the special cleaning out the house event. Hmm… I wonder why. I’ll have to show you the other gems we got later, but I will warn you there are A LOT.

Lovely. We can always use more collector items in our small house. Ha.

I did finally take something new out of the box this morning though.

Oh heck yes. I’ve been waiting until I ran my other Wave Inspire 10s out, but it was time today to take these lovelies out for the beginning of fall. I love the color.

(Spoiler alert- Mizuno came out with a new Wave Rider 18 shoe that is coming out SOON! Lots of hype on this shoe. Stay tuned.)

Oh hey, our new butler seems to like them too.

I’m going to use them as motivation for getting on the treadmill early tomorrow morning. My Parenthood episodes are done so I need something else for motivation. Ha.

I’m hoping for a better night’s sleep tonight with that darn mask conveniently misplaced at the moment. Time to hit the sack.

I’ll leave you with these 16 things you probably didn’t know about sleep.

16 Things You Didn

You’re welcome.

Have a great start to your week!

What’s your favorite soup?

What sleep position are you from the chart? I’m A. Fetal position. Gruff initially? What?

Do you dream in color or black and white? I have no idea what I do.

What would you recommend instead of the sausage for the soup? I want to definitely make it this weekend!

    I’m A – fetal position

I haven’t really noticed if I dream in color or black and white, now I’ll try to pay attention! 🙂

You keep making me want to get a spiralizer! I almost bought one to give my boyfriend for his birthday so I could use it 😉

I’m usually closest to an “e” while I’m sleeping, although usually one foot has to be out from under the covers. My favorite soup has sweet potato, spicy sausage and spinach, but I can’t wait to try the recipe you just posted! Fall set in here in Pittsburgh today– the seasons felt like they changed overnight, so I can’t wait to try the recipe for something warm and hearty!

Doesn’t it always seem as though you can never sleep when you are “allowed” to sleep… GRRRRRRR… PS Maybe you should warn people before you post SCARY things 😉 I might have a nightmare and LESS sleep due to the “treasures” the boys found this weekend!

I had a horrible night of sleep, too – sort of standard but last night was on the spectrum of really bad – oh, well, I should sleep better tonight.

Fetal to yearner though my hands/arms are usually down and tucked between my knees most of the time otherwise they fall asleep (numb up). I’m pretty sure i dream in color and lots of crazy ones because I sleep really lightly.

Brussels sprouts stalks…don’t see why not plus I eat stems/leaves from everything broccoli, cauli, carrots etc. They are good and good for you (:

I’m a borscht lover…grew up in a Russian household. Better after it sits in fridge for a few days…yum!
