Types of Runs To Do, What to Buy at TJ’s and a Flash Flavanol GIVEAWAY

Hello friends!

Happy Monday!

STUFT Daddy is off work today and the gem that he is let me sleep in a little and get on the treadmill while he helped the boys with their LEGO kits from the Brick-or-Treat event. I know, I’m freakishly lucky.

Anyhoo…

I wasn’t sure how the run was going to go, but told myself if it felt good I was going to throw some speed work in there.

I went for it and it wasn’t too shabby.

20 minute warm-up followed by 4 sets of 7 minutes at 6:40 pace with 3 minutes of recovery in between.

Then I did a couple cool down miles while the last The Mindy Project episode finished.

2014-10-20 09.10.162014-10-20 09.12.08

I feel like I’m kind of just trying to hold on through the the next month or so with running and my races and then I need some time off to just reevaluate some goals and my training, etc.

I just need a clearer picture in my head. I actually need one for a lot of other life stuff at the moment too, but hey, we’re figuring it out. Ha.

So since I finally got a little speed work in this morning I thought I’d pass these two awesome articles along about running. The first one is about basic types of runs you should be doing.

The 8 Basic Types Of Runs

Recovery Run

Base Run

Long Run

Progression Run

Fartlek

Hill Repeats

Tempo Run

Intervals

So let’s see, out of the eight they list (and explain) above, I’d say I do about 4 of them (basic, recovery, long and occasional intervals). Does anyone really do all of them? How the heck would someone fit them all in?

Maybe mixing up a few more of these into my training for next year should be part of the plan.

The running workouts in this article,

Three Workouts to Increase Pain Tolerance

particularly don’t sound fun. Yikes. I mean they list the hard part of the run as “suffer it”. Man oh man, I haven’t done any of these and quite frankly they scare me, but I guess if you dream big, you better work just that much harder. Beavis.

The boys and I went to Trader Joe’s yesterday. I really need to stay away from that place when I’m hungry. It’s just dangerous. I guess it’s also dangerous with two nearly five year olds though too.

These are my favorite apples. Jass apples. They’re pretty expensive in other stores, but TJ’s has this big bag of little ones for pretty cheap. You’ve got to try them.

2014-10-19 17.55.32

I also just recently discovered this soft pretzel stick.

2014-10-19 17.57.30

Have you ever had it? If you love big huge soft pretzels, you really must try this too.

Since it’s going to be a long night and I’m purposely not going to be by the computer when I get home from teaching, here’s a flash giveaway.

The New York Marathon is less than two weeks away and my butler has been making sure I’m getting my daily Cocoa Flavanols.

That guy, always watching out for me. Ha ha. He’s even finally serving me coffee in my new travel mug.

2014-10-15-10.12.10_thumb

I’ve talked about my love for CocoaVia and all it’s health benefits a bazillion times. I’ve gotten Mom taking these gems and now I want to give some to you. They are the official sponsor for our trip to NY and my goodness I just want to share the love with you.

I love dark chocolate and TJ’s pumpkin butter 🙂

Favorite chocolate is dark. The darker the better. Or anything with mint. Or whatever’s right in front of me at the moment. We don’t have a TJ’s close by, but when we go, we go hard. Always a fan of the JoJo’s (the candy cane ones are epic) and cookie butter. As far as running workouts, I strangely enjoy speed work, specifically mile repeats, as they pack on the mileage without getting too tedious.

I LOVE Trader Joe’s Sea Salt & Turbinado Sugar Dark Chocolate Almonds. They are delicious! Luckily I don’t have a TJ’s near me, so I only have them maybe once or twice a year!

I love CocoaVia! I buy the powder stick packs and mix it in my coffee or yogurt. I am addicted to anything dark chocolate so I especially love the CocoaVia since it comes in an unsweetened variety and adds a super cocoa flavor to things. Plus the super good for you flavanols that you mentioned.

I hope that your New York marathon is super!

    Cindy Grady says:

I’m addicted to TJ’s sunflower seeds. They’re “beefy”! And you don’t get as many disgusting/rotting/bugs or whatever as you do with the other brands. I also love their jalapeño sauce for tacos. But to Kristin, I’m sure it tastes like ketchup because she is the spice queen. <3 I'd love to try these capsules that you and your mom take.

Trader Joes fair trade 72% cocoa. One piece in my Vega smoothie makes it a chocolate chip smoothie with good for me chocolate. Not a daily occurrence I should add.
