Recovery, Some Solutions and Eats at Home

Why hello.

I feel like I’ve been disconnected for awhile this week. People keep asking how I’m feeling after New York and I have to stop and think about it.

Was it really last week?

I feel great actually and have been so busy with life stuff and other things it’s just kind of been a whirlwind since we’ve been back.

Workouts have been very minimal this week. Unfortunately I’ve still been eating like I’m running like crazy, but hey, that’s all part of recovery, right? Ha.

I’ve been teaching classes, but not much else. Yesterday I did nothing.

This morning I randomly woke up early before teaching boot camp and felt like running outside while it was chilly out.

I went for a short, slow, 5-6 “naked” miles and they were glorious.

It’s been really nice just not focusing on workouts or anything this week. They’re on the back burner and they just might stay there for another week or so. I think I’ll just stick to some shorter runs and cross- training with my classes next week also. My mind and body are already thanking me and it’s just time to rest for a bit because I have some big plans for next year and want to be ready physically and mentally to tackle them the right way.

More on that later, but speaking of recovery and such, I really like this article on the Mizuno blog, “Off Season Planning and Recovery”.

Other random life happenings as of late……..

We officially have the coolest Band-Aids ever at our house.

Right? Beaker is my favorite.

I got proposed to the other day. I didn’t have the heart to say that it doesn’t quite work like that and you probably shouldn’t marry your mom. I just said “of course” instead.

The boys are getting really good and fast on their bikes. I think they might be ready to take the training wheels off soon. It’s pretty exciting.

2014-11-07 16.59.09

I almost peed my pants this morning when I walked to my car and saw this guy staring at me.

2014-11-08 10.38.00

That was not fun. He seriously scared the heck out of me.

The boys had soccer again today and for some reason when this guy scores a goal he has to make a big production out of it.

2014-11-08 11.08.07

Ha ha. Oh and by the way, it was like 90 degrees here today. What the heck is up with that? I can’t even burn my fall candles with it that hot.

Oh and these guys also think they’re ready for bunk beds.

2014-11-08 12.50.24-1

We did some window shopping even though I’m not quite sure they’re ready.

2014-11-08 12.54.502014-11-08 12.56.15

Bunk beds are expensive.

So on the way home we came up with a temporary solution.

2014-11-08 15.18.58

We took out the toddler beds and moved the full size bed from the office in their room. Everyone seemed to be okay with that and now they have their own “apartment”. The boys and I did it all by ourselves too so we were pretty impressed with our skills.

I’m still working on a post with all our eats from New York, but here’s some random things we’ve been eating around here at home.

I was in charge of soccer snacks today. Here’s what I came up with thanks to a quick stop last night at Target.

2014-11-08 11.19.18

The other night I made “squashos” with roasted kabocha squash.

2014-11-05 19.35.07

They were really quite delicious.

We got a delightful fall inspired delivery from Frieda’s the other day.

2014-11-05 14.08.25

Fresh ginger root, vanilla bean, Green Dragon Apples and my favorite Stokes Purple® Sweet Potatoes. I was down to my last one so those purple gems are like gold. Ha ha.

2014-11-05 14.09.17

I already got into one of those Green Dragon Apples. I average about 1-2 apples a day at the moment. It was delicious. It definitely had a different taste and was crispy and sweet. I just ate it plain and didn’t doctor it up or anything.

The other day was mighty long and the afternoon called for some serious coffee and a baked Quest Bar.

2014-11-06 14.04.01

Cookies and Cream was the flavor of the day.

Last night was a little different and I went with a Double Chocolate Chunk Quest Bar right before bed.

2014-11-07 21.31.50

When I went to Target last night to get soccer snacks I couldn’t resist buying these to test out.

Apple-ahhh-Rita? Ha ha. They were good. Sweet and good over ice. STUFT Daddy and did some seriously life decision talking over a couple of those last night. I don’t know about you, but we always like to make major life decisions with wine or margaritas. Ha ha. I’m kind of kidding, but we really have made some pretty good life decisions that way in the past. You know, way back in the day when we were young.

Okay, and with that, I’m off. I have a training tomorrow to become a certified KettleWorX instructor. I better get some studying and practicing in.

Two things before I go:

Since I’m all chatty about food and such, here’s a cool article from Runner’s World on what foods runners should avoid. I found the list interesting. Most of the things are pretty obvious, but I thought it was weird nuts were on the list. Maybe they were just referring to the ones that had added oil, etc. You can check it out here if you want.

Foods Runner’s Should Avoid

And…..

There’s still a couple more hours to enter the win a FREE entry into the Phoenix Marathon.

Wow that’s a great time. I can imagine how great that coffee was. It’s weird how cold it was. The Santa Barbara marathon was today and I went over the hill with my toddler to cheer people on up the big hill at mile 23. It was 81 degrees.

Those kids protein bars look so delicious! I still need to pick some of them up to try them out! So I couldn’t help but notice that the boys have a Hello Kitty alarm clock. Are they a fan?

I always eat right before bed, usually a yogurt or cereal. I did it growing up and never grew out of it! At least it isn’t ice cream anymore.

I’m so jealous that your Target sells alcohol. The ones near me don’t- my friends and I were just saying how convenient it would be to buy wine at Target.
