No Plans, Just Looking Ahead With Some Motivation


Happy Veteran’s Day everyone! Oh my goodness, giving out a huge thank you to all of you out there who have served or are serving our country. You are amazing and we are so honored and blessed for all you do. We live in a pretty darn incredible place.


I’ve managed a run both yesterday and today. I don’t have any real plans for the week or a mileage I want to get to or anything. I’m just kind of running when I want to. It’s a really great feeling.

Yesterday’s run was seven easy miles while watching old SATC episodes. They’re more fun to watch right now since we were just in New York for the marathon.

Like those sweaty shins? Ha ha.

I taught my classes yesterday too throughout the day. Thought I’d step it up in spin and finish class with “Everything is Awesome”. I’m sure they really appreciated that. Ha.

(Yes, I have a hair appointment for later today. Those roots need some loving.)

This morning started with ten miles. With the amount if times I stepped off on the side though, it was probably more like nine miles.

The cute movie for entertainment was Parental Guidance. Light-hearted and funny. I still have a bit more to watch, but if you’re looking for a cute family-friendly type flick check it out.


Okay, moving on.

I’ve been dipping pretty much anything and everything in it. Mmm hmm….


So…… here’s where I’m at right now.

I really think I’m dropping to the half in Vegas. I just don’t know if I have it in me to run another full marathon this year. I mean sure, I could push through and do it, but I’m just not sure what doing another slow marathon will do for me right now. I’ve already run 11 full marathons just this year. That is A LOT, especially with all the other life happenings that have been going on.

I’d love to be that person that ran 12 marathons in a year, but I’d also really love to just take things easy for a few more weeks and not have any running plans or goals. I want to be ready to really train the right way (for a change) for some big races coming up in 2015 and if I do things the right way that training cycle will start on just a few more weeks.

I think I need just a little bit more down time both physically and mentally.

With that being said, I like to motivate myself to rest more by focusing on the future. I can’t remember if I showed you this or not, but it came in the mail the other week.

Oh heck yes. So darn excited to get to the Boston Marathon again. I might be dragging Mom along for the ride this time. He he.

Oh and I just got this plaque from The San Francisco Marathon 2014 the other week also.

It was very timely in that it came just when I was really doubting myself and running and the future and whatnot.

I still have some fight in me and yes, I’m totally getting older and everything is getting harder, but darn it, I will NOT stop dreaming big. I’m taking some extra time right now to really decide on what my goals are and have a plan of action to bust my bootie to try make them come true. (Yeah, you like how I crossed that out there? Ha.)

I want to be more than ready for the Boston 2 Big Sur Challenge next year.

So naturally, while I’m not planning anything at the moment, I did have to get ready for once I do have a set plan.

I decided I needed one and after a quick little Google search found it here and ordered it.

I freaking love journals.

I feel like all these things  and some random other life happenings at the moment are getting me really excited for 2015 and not only motivating me for my goals next year, but also to really rest better right now. Funny how we sometimes need motivation to rest, right?


My other main motivations are these two.

Yep. They are my main motivations to be a better mama, person, example, etc.

    You totally deserve to give yourself a break. Don’t feel guilty for a second – rest is 100% necessary to avoid burning out entirely! I feel like it’s during periods of rest that I really regain my love for running. The pressure can become too much, no matter how much you love to run.

    I’m not signing up for a full this spring, but hoping to improve my time on the half and 10K. I am running Philly (full) on the 23rd and after that I will be happy to relax for a bit!

    I AM STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT MOTIVATES ME!!!!! UGH!!! At least I want motivation to last more than 1-3 months…..I want change for a lifetime but do I really because I don’t seem to be making the daily changes.

    I LOVE journals/calendars/ tablets etc….I love making lists, crossing things off the list and then making new ones…..I can’t even get use to using my calendar on my phone…its just not the same as seeing it written out.

    You’re amazing! I think your heart is definitely telling you what to do- just have to listen :). 11 marathons? Just incredible. The boys are adorable. Kaylin obviously is one of my main motivators and Josh too! Also all the participants who take my classes at the gym <3 <3

    My main motivator is my son! I want to stay healthy, happy and sane (running keeps me sane!) for him. I’m already thinking ahead to 2015 races and planning for them. My plan is to maintain fitness until January, when I’ll ramp things up and start training for the Carmel Marathon. My goal is to BQ, so I’m really going to train hard!

    Your boys are adorable! And it sounds like you’ve had a full year of racing, so you definitely deserve to take it easy! Go with your instincts! And congrats on 3rd place in your age group at the San Fran Marathon!

    Definitely love journaling my goals; I’ve done that in recording my mileage this year and it’s been great. I have a third Ironman on schedule for next year, and a rock n roll marathon. Hoping to come in stinger next year than ever!

    I think it’s wise to listen to your body. Rest is a good thing too. I LOVE journals and planners. I’m obsessed with my Erin Condren life planner. I’m just getting ready to order my new one for 2015. I hate dropping the coin but it makes me happy to look at it all year long. Especially since I pay the extra $5 to put a personal picture on it. Love looking at my babies on there!

    Glad that you are thinking about dropping down to the half – this is not the time to completely wear yourself out or worse, end up injured!!! Plus running a half is still a significant distance!!!
    My boys motivate me, too – especially now – can’t let them beat me just because they are older.

    Everyone has there struggles, so I’m glad that your plaque came in the mail to make you realize that you still have some fight left in you. It’s interesting when something pops up to make us realize those things when we need to realize them the most!

    Feeling great and being in better shape motivates me. I’m just in a much better place mentally when I workout.

    I really like planners/journals. Paper ones. I just don’t feel the same about digital ones.

    We have so many things going on at home right now, house hunting and job things, that I haven’t even started planning past next week! 🙂

    My goal next year is to qualify for the world champs for the Ironman in Kona! I like using spreadsheets to keep track, but journals mean I could take it on the road – something to think about!
    Race goals are what motivate me!

    Kristin, I am so happy you are taking some time for you! With all you & your body is going thru, you need this and deserve it!!

    For me, I am in a place where I am letting go of physical goals beyond trying to age decently… my body is telling me that. Even other stuff – I think I am just a bit burned out on trying. 🙂
