Being Brave and I’m Just Not That Smart Sometimes

Being Brave and I’m Just Not That Smart Sometimes

Hello hello!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend so far.

I taught boot camp Saturday morning and braved the Southern California cold weather and all.

I love it more for the company that the workout sometimes. It’s so fun to get together and chat our way through burpees and such. Ha.

We do the rotational lunge with the sandbag pretty much every week. It’s a good one.

Here’s an oldie, but a goodie post with an ultimate sandbag workout. There’s also some pretty funny toddler entertainment outside. Gosh they were so young. Check it out.

Weekend Highlights and the Ultimate Sandbag

I taught a 20/20/20 class at the gym after boot camp and then headed straight to see these guys play their last soccer game.

I totally got emotional about their first soccer season ending. I’m guessing that’s something I’m going to have to get used to. Man I’m in for it.

The genius that I am just ordered my Christmas cards from Costco the other day so Saturday was our day to pick them up. I was scared and pretty much dreading it. Someone told me they had to wait over 30 minutes in the photo line. The boys and I made a quick stop before facing our fears.

A little red cup action always helps, right?

(I got my favorite Starbucks drink that I only get when I have an earned reward- green tea soy latte, no sweetener, two added shots of espresso. It’s amazing.)

Costco wasn’t too bad actually and we picked up our pictures really quickly. It was when we got stuck in the back of the store in the crowds and all the people wanting samples and such when things got a little hairy.

We braved our way through though and made it out with our necessities.

2014-12-20 13.44.28

Someone did manage to get food samples all over our card envelopes though. Lovely.

The boys decided they wanted even more soccer when we got home and I wasn’t about to turn down an offer to challenge this guy.

I put on a brave face and took them on even though they had some weird offensive strategies.

I even managed to go for a quick 5 mile run before the sun went down. I had 40 minutes before Andrew had to go somewhere so I pretty much just ran out the door with my phone in hand. I was so glad I did as it was the only chance I got all week to run outside.

2014-12-20 16.52.22

We haven’t left the house yet today and it’s been brilliant.

I didn’t get to my run until later, but got in 10 treadmill miles to one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. “Happy Christmas” or something? Save your time and your money.

2014-12-21 09.36.12-1

I decided I really need to figure out some goals and a schedule for 2015. I thought I had some in place, but then I started full time work and things have been a little foggy. I’ve been running, but I feel like I’ve lost my direction a bit. I need to refocus and these next two weeks while I’m off are the perfect time for that.

We have a new job on our hands during this winter break.

We’ll be hand feeding these baby Gouldian Finches. We raise them and have quite a few in aviaries in our backyard, but there was a little mishap with these babies so we’re stepping in to take care of them. We’ve got them on a pretty strict feeding schedule.

Andrew just told me that getting to hand feed these babies on my break is my Christmas present. Gosh I’m so lucky.

I cleaned the kitchen floor today. Not the smarted thing because right when I finished we had our afternoon carrot peeling session.

2014-12-21 14.34.03

That got pretty messy and I got to clean the floor again afterwards. It was worth it though. We each have our own container of colorful carrots to make roasted carrots tonight.

2014-12-21 14.38.46

I haven’t made them in so long and I’m trying to get more veggies in for everyone so we’re going with Italian Carrot “Fries” tonight with our pasta.

Okay, that’s all I’ve got for now. I really need to address my Christmas cards. I still do them by hand because I don’t know how to do labels on the computer. Yeah, I’m that smart. Ha.

I’ll leave with two more highlights from the weekend.

This is the coolest wine cover ever. It makes me smile and so does that reindeer sock monkey friend.

2014-12-20 20.31.56

Speaking of reindeer, the boys made these reindeer cookies at school the other day. Judah told me I could have his and his reason was “because I love you”.

I’m so darn lucky and Nutter Butters are so darn good. I forgot how awesome they are. Ha.

Hope you had a fabulous weekend.

I know what you mean about resetting goals. It’s the perfect time – a New Year’s tradition. I thought you were going to run Boston this year? If so, there’s less than 17 weeks. I came up with my own training plan for it, and shared it with my marathon running, harley riding priest. He missed qualifying for Boston (by 3 minutes) twice this year – so he’s really close.

Okay, stop reading this and get those Christmas cards out!

Ha! I’m procrastinating with the cards. Oops. Yes, running Boston 2 Big Sur, but just need to figure out goals, etc. Luckily I have a coach willing to deal with my stubbornness and give me another chance. Hard to follow someone else’s program when I’m so used to doing my own thing, but my own thing kind of did me in this year so need to take a different route. You are awesome Joe!

Take the hawaiian sweet rolls and cut them in half, but not all the way through. Cut them enough that it splits but still ‘together’. Slather some ghee on it. Put a pan on high and grill the hawaiian roll ‘ghee side down’. Do not burn… Just grill until brown and serve warm! So good!
