This morning didn’t go quite as planned. I can’t run at all at the moment due to hip pain. Things haven’t been right since the race Sunday and I’m not taking any chances. Unfortunately this is a very familiar pain, which is unsettling.

I made the best of the early morning though and was grateful for our super cheap, battery operated elliptical.

I did intervals of 4 minutes on level 5 and then a minute on level 7. Nothing too exciting, but I had to change it up a bit.


I’m not sure how long this little training hiccup is going to last. Obviously I’m bummed, but it’s a chance to slow down a bit too and really figure out some things. The timing really isn’t all that bad.

Mom always taught me to focus on the positive. (She also told me I should find a different hobby other than running, but we’ll just let that one go for the moment.)

Focusing on the positive and thinking about what I CAN do right now is what we’ll do.

I’m loving morning sunrises more and more each day.

The boys got new shoes the other day and really wanted to talk a walk to test them out. We decided to walk down the block not only with new shoes, but with the kitties in a bag too.

They were not the lightest thing to carry around. Surprisingly we didn’t get too many weird looks.

Time with these guys is never wasted time.

Not to brag, but they’re getting really great at riding bikes thanks to Daddy taking them to the park so often lately.

I’m really getting good at the whole eating on the run thing.

The other day it was a roasted purple sweet potato with coconut oil and cinnamon and Seedy Silk STUFT Bread with goat cheese cream cheese and spicy red pepper jam.

All kinds of goodness on there, right? Oh and I’m still liking the whole Havarti and sliced apple thing.

I was a bit under the weather the other day, but taking a day to really just rest really helped. Besides the whole leg/hip issue I felt better today.

I’m going to focus on getting some core strength back as I can totally tell that I haven’t been doing as much cross training. It seems to be the perfect time to switch gears for a bit.

I looked through my old physical therapy exercises since I’m going to throw them in the mix again to see if they help.

This bridge variation is great for core stabilization and hamstring strength.

I put my feet on a medicine ball to make it a little more difficult, squeeze a light weighted ball between my knees. Lift the hips off the floor and hold it. It’s fabulous.

I’m working on extending one leg and holding it, but my balance still needs some work.

Today was also the day to pump up the BOSU and get the heck back on that thing.

I did a couple basic moves like a V-sit with that same ball between my legs.

Oh, my coaches were giving me a little advice right there.

The core work was cut short because too many people wanted in on the little workout session.

I got a few last seconds of a V-sit in with a little extra resistance.

And yes, Mowgli is in fact licking my shirt. Lovely.

My other random workout friend that has been a little bothersome lately is this guy.

He does NOT have a turn off button and randomly lights up and says some weird stuff. I finally had enough today and took out his batteries. If he still manages to light up and scare me I’m going to really be worried.


So, yeah, I’ll leave you with this fun move. I can’t run, but I can burpee without pain so I’m foreseeing a lot of burpees in my near future.

This move with an added jump on and off the BOSU in between each burpee is a fun one. Please excuse the messy workout room. We’re gathering a few things for a trip to Goodwill.

Well, how rude. I’m just now realizing I didn’t even talk or anything. Next time. And next time I think they boys AND the cats should be included. Wouldn’t that be awesome?

    Honestly I can’t believe you can do that burped Bosu thing and NOT feel pain in your hip? I am sore just watching you. 😉 So sorry to hear the pain is back especially with how strong you are and all….I guess pain doesn’t discriminate at any point in life……and since you are a little more prone to it with your hip dyplesia (yea, spelling if off but you know).

    Love the core/hamstring move…I will have to go for that today too.

    Oh no no no so sorry your hip is acting up again. Fingers crossed that some rest will do the trick. There must be something in the air about injuries this month.

    Kristin (love your name, btw!) , I’m so sorry you’re injured. I remember you saying you had osteoporosis. Do you think that is causing your hip pain? Are you working with a nutritionist to make sure your diet is helping build bone density? It seems like you are drastically under eating.

      It’s hip dysplasia. I’ve had it and was hoping it wouldn’t make it’s return quite this fast. Definitely not undereating these days. The majority of what I eat doesn’t make it on the blog. 🙂

    No workout friends here – the boys used to hang out with me but then they got older:(
    Love that bridge move – gonna try it soon.
    I HATE that your hip is hurting you!!! Today I finally did my birthday run (4 months later) and I thought about you a lot since last January I celebrated with you!! Feel better fast!!!

    Bummer about the hip pain :/ That bosu burpee is killer! Totally stealing that! I teach a Stroller Strides class and my girls can’t wait til the abs portion to get out of the stroller and climb all over me! It’s a game now. 45 lbs of resistance baby!! Stay well 🙂

    So sorry your hip is acting up!!! I can relate to racing less. I did 2 marathons in 8 months(a lot for me…a very average runner=) and I’m having a hard time finding motivation to race now. I am also in the process of becoming a personal trainer. As much as I want to pack my schedule with races to get my groove back, I’ve realized I can be a runner and not race as much, especially if there are other things requiring more of my attention. Hope you heal fast!!!
