Foam and Fun Gym Machines


I know I said I’d talk spin, but I didn’t really do anything now or exciting in my class last night and rushed off before getting to do any silly selfies.

I did play Cotton Eye Joe for some sprints which wasn’t really part of the plan. Everyone went really hard though, probably in hopes of getting the song to end earlier. Ha.

A post dedicated solely to spinning is in the works and I’ll try to address all the things mentioned (including the uncomfortable seat issue).


Last night though I was in a hurry to catch the last few minutes of the boys’ soccer game. They were all decked out in their new gear and all.

We did decide to take a group selfie in the driveway though afterwards.

I should have them wear Halo headbands when they play. Then they’ll really be all decked out. Ha. If you can’t tell, they were very excited about their game last night.


I’m trying really hard to be patient and work on strengthening my core and hips to help this whole recovery process speed up a bit. It’s so easy to just hope it gets better, but not put all your effort into making that happen. I’m done just hoping and praying and going to be as proactive as possible.

I got back to my old physical therapy exercises this morning plus a few I added in myself.

We had family breakfast and we made pancakes again with Trader Joe’s multigrain pancake mix and used coconut oil. I’m getting pretty good at my pancake making skills.

Random, but I really want them to make cool divided plates like that for adults. I would be all about those! Do they have them somewhere?

Oh and just in case you’re wondering, Silk unsweetened vanilla almondmilk froths just perfectly.

I made myself a little homemade café Americano this morning after going two days without coffee or caffeine. Yep, right when I got rid of the headache I gave in. Coffee just makes the day better doesn’t it?

I’ve been all about finger foods and snacks lately. Things I’m loving are: carrots and hummus, Flatout crisps (very old embarrassing video on that link), apples, Low carb toasted tortillas with goat cheese and spicy jelly, etc.

I was out and about all day today on my last day off of work. I went from one gym training to another gym meeting. I brought some goods to share with the other instructors though after our little KettleWorx practice. Aren’t I nice?

My snack foods today were consumed in the car. I must say carrots and hummus are not easy to eat in route.

I had a little time after my meeting to get a quick workout in at the gym. Anytime I can workout somewhere other than my little workout room at home I take full advantage of it. Our gym, Fit Athletic,  just got some new equipment recently with this whole remodel so I had to test a few of the new toys out.

It’s Jacob’s Ladder. I had only seen it on The Biggest Loser before, but have always wanted to try it. I was a little scared to try to figure it out all by myself with people around, but I decided to kick fear to the curb and try it out. I also asked a nice gal who also works there how to use it.

It was pretty straight forward. Adjust the belt to your height, put the belt on and start climbing.

I only did it for 10 minutes and didn’t really go fast because it took some getting used to with the hand placement and stepping up and everything. I’ll be back though for sure.

Then I ventured down to try out this new rope I’ve been eyeing. I’ve tried a cool rope like this before so I knew it was a good workout.

After about five minutes I felt like I needed an extra little challenge with it so I turned over a BOSU and stood on it for five more minutes while pulling the rope.

Then  I logged 20 minutes on the Stairclimber, 30 minutes on the elliptical and then 10 minutes on the rowing machine.

I was trying to get my 2000m done in less than 10 minutes, but I’m just not that cool.

It was a random mix of cardio machines, but I got a totally of an hour and 20 minutes in so that’s equivalent to like an 8-10 mile run, right?

Whelp, now it’s time for bed.

One benefit to using other machines at the gym is that I get a chance to read up on all my old magazines. I read a recent issue of Runner’s World and saw this on Deena Kastor and her 2014 and 2015 resolutions.

How perfect are her 2014 goals?

Simplifying possessions and cutting out obligations that don’t excite me. I REALLY need to do both of those things.

I am just so inspired by her.


Oh and too funny that RC commented on the last post about wearing a weight vest while doing household chores. I’m so doing that next time. Most likely that will be tomorrow.

    1, I LOVE spinning, I just tried it for the first time a few weeks ago, I need to get back for more!
    2. I’ve given up caffeine (for the most part) and well had some last night and was up until 2 a.m. uh! It really works well when you aren’t used to it 🙁
    3. The Jacobs ladder does look fun, I could use one of those in my house for the kids to burn some energy.
    4. My favorite machine at the gym is the stepper! What a workout!

    I was surprised to read you didn’t have coffee for two days! Why did you give it up? How does caffeine affect you negatively? I can only handle one cup and not really even that sometimes. Yesterday afternoon I took my dog for a walk and was feeling shaky from my morning cup! I like it best after a run, strong, with plain unsweetened soymilk.

    I don’t think I’ve gone two days without caffeine since college. My habit has only gotten more severe since our lab bought an espresso machine. All the studies seem to indicate that a little bit of caffeine (like a cup or two of coffee) daily isn’t so bad, and might even HELP stave off some nasty pathologies like Parkinson’s & heart disease! The key word there is “a little bit.” I don’t think my four Americanos per day routine fits into that description.

    I don’t usually do cardio at the gym; ellipticals bum me out and I prefer riding my bike outdoors to spinning, but I do LOVE the rowing machine.

    Love the Thomas Train divided plates and would use them even though I’m an adult, lol. We had divided picnic plates like that when I was a kid, but sorry, that was the 60s and not sure where Mom purchased them, ha, ha!

    I know, I know we are all different and our bodies are definitely different BUT I have to kind of laugh inside when I read that you are “working on” strengthening your hips and core…..when it appears to me you are so strong already.

    (especially compared to many….but we are all different and shouldn’t compare …..)

    Kudos to you my friend…keep up the great work!! (I will just sit here and eat Kudos while I think about working out….ha!)

    I think those Jacob Ladder machines look scary – not sure I would like it! So the rope is just to pull? Pretty obvious that I rarely go to the gym.

    Your food always looks so festive and delish! I have a question lol: is that gouda cheese on top of a low carb tortilla?? It looks so bomb!

    I agree the Silk almond milk froths magically!! However, the new cashew milk will not froth AT ALL. Totally flat. Have you tried to froth it? I love the taste and creaminess though. I’m wondering if it was just a fluke. I should probably try to froth it again. Please try to froth it and let me know how yours does!

    I have tried Jacobs ladder, and it was scary! My fave is definitely the treadmill 🙂 I love those goals too, yay for cutting out obligations that don’t excite us! And yes, coffee does indeed make the day better 🙂
