My “Long Run”, Chia Pet Secret and Errands


Hi friends! Hope you had a fabulous weekend!


My attempt to use my cross training cardio as my “long run” this morning went over pretty well. I set out for 2.5 hours of sustained cardio effort. As much as I wanted to stay in bed with these two, I got out and got to it.

The first 1.5 miles were on the treadmill at 20% incline and 4.0 speed. I jogged here and there, but it was uncomfortable so none of my jogging spurts were over 5 minutes.

I did watch a really cute movie though called Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.

It was a long, slow hour and a half, but the entertainment was good.

I got on the elliptical for an hour afterwards. I had a few visitors in the transition and they were too funny when they saw the treadmill up so high. “Whoa. Mommy how did you get it up so high? I didn’t know if could do that.”

Of course they had to test it out at the slowest speed possible.

We had the perfect date night Saturday night.

Pajamas were on early and we finally planted out Kermit chia pets.

Totally random, but did you know that all you do to get it to grow is make the usual chai gel that we eat and use in oatmeal and chia jam, etc. and spread it on the grooves on the outside of the planter? We made a pretty big mess, but I thought that was so strange. We could be making our own chia pets all over the darn place.



Our weekend errands consisted of the usual trip to Trader Joe’s. A couple discoveries worth sharing are these pretzel bagels that are as good as they appear. We had them with our breakfast today.

I tried not to buy them, but they lured me in and are now in the freezer.

I also found these cute little endives.

I’m going to cut them all cute and dip them in hummus like they had at the fancy baby shower last weekend.

Oh and I always buy like five bags of butter lettuce and organic broccoli these days. Trying to simplify things around here you know.

We braved the rain for a quick trip to the mall today. I wore my slippers and obviously needed to use my birthday reward Starbucks drink before it expired..

Joaquin decided to make up for my slipper wearing and really get dressed up.

I thought about spending the afternoon doing a bunch of food prep for the week, but I played LEGOS with the boys instead. We had a wedding and a fishing trip with our little LEGOS.

Now I’m off to put the laundry away and cook up some dinner and regroup to be ready to tackle the week.

Since things are moving so slowly with this healing business I get to go see the orthopedic surgeon Wednesday so that should be fun.


Man oh man.

As a Mizuno Ambassador I’m patiently awaiting a shipment of a pair of the new Wave Inspire 11 shoes. I have a pair that I’ve used outside for some long runs before my hip flared up, but can’t wait for a brand new pair to break in on the treadmill. Maybe they’ll come just when I can really start running again. That would be perfect, yes?

I got to write about some lessons I’ve learned from racing too much for the Mizuno blog.

Taking a little more down time at night this week so I might not be around as much, but hopefully it’ll help things out a bit.

    Yes..yes…I am starting a fresh month with a “its closer to spring and getting out of winter blahs” makes me excited…..so I am thinking of goals for spring and for the rest of my life.

    Maybe you need to buy a bike for home instead of the treadmill….so you aren’t tempted to run even a little…that hip has to get better!! You said yourself….7 weeks. 😉 I can’t imagine what you are REALLY feeling inside your head during this second time around of hip issues. I sure hope you can get better ….. hugs.

    Wait, so did you freak your kids out by just grabbing a bunch of chia seeds off the heads and eating them? I would have!!!! ha!

    I thought I would try the sardines with tomato sauce. I couldn’t eat them. Thanks for sharing your health issues. Take care of yourself! I haven’t run since July 9,2014 due to a knee issue. The frustrating part is that I’ve had an MRI… And they all tell me whatever it is, it’s minor. Things are slowly getting better and am doing prolotherapy. Now I’am dealing with a nerve impingement which is very painful. I know things will get better but that means wishing time away!
