Our Second Junior Carlsbad Race and We Had Some Competition

Good evening everyone!

We’re giving Mommy the night off as she’s still working on a little something called taxes. The mess in the office with all the stacks of papers looks really fun and all, but we think we’ll stay away for now.

This week has been so busy she totally forgot to tell you about our big race last weekend so we thought we should fill in to pick up the slack. We write much better race recaps than her anyway and let’s be honest she’s not really racing much these days anyway. She is, however, really starting to love “rogging”. That’s a mix of running and jogging at a very slow pace. A mile is a mile though.

Before we get to our race, we have a couple important things to share like the Pro Compression sock of the month.

The registration for Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon just opened yesterday. That’s always a huge race. Mommy’s special discount code (STUFTMAMA for $15 off) doesn’t work for that race, but it DOES work for just about every other Rock ‘n’ Roll race. She’s not sure if she’s going to do it again this year, but her friend is trying to convince her.

We’re all about Love Grown Foods breakfasts lately. We’ve gotten into the new Mighty Flakes, but today we were busy finishing off some Power O’s before Mommy lets us open another new box of the flakes. She’s big on making sure we get healthy breakfast every day and making sure we finish one box of cereal before we open a new one.

Let’s talk about the race now, shall we?

We were running a little late as usual to the Junior Carlsbad races. There was a bit of a mix up when we were trying to register so it took a lot longer than planned and then Mommy forgot her sunglasses at the booth.

So we missed our 5 year old start. We weren’t too upset though because we ran into a gnome named Jerome on the way to our start.

We got there and tried to just sneak right in with the 4 year olds. I’m sure everyone knew we were 5 though because we’re so mature and everything.

We lined up at the front to start, but then decided we wanted Mommy to run with us. If our parents were running we had to stand in the back so we moved back there.

It was a pretty good move though because we just happen to line up right by Mommy’s biggest inspiration, Deena Kastor and her daughter Piper.

We started out right beside them. Joaquin got a little ahead of himself and went all out while Judah and Mommy kept it slow and steady.

We stayed right on those speedy ladies’ tails though.

There was no way we were letting them get too far ahead of us.

The one thing about all of our kid races is that there’s always at least one crash or someone falling down right by us. It’s never our fault of course, but man, it’s dangerous out there. You always have to watch where you’re going.

Joaquin slowed down a bit right before the finish line. Maybe he just wanted to take in all the cheers. Judah and Mommy held hands the entire time and just wanted to make sure they finished together.

Before we knew it the race was over and we had another really awesome medal to add to our collection.

These medals that Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series gives are no joke. Mommy’s medals from her races are so awesome and even our kid ones from our short race are really fancy and heavy.

Mommy made sure to catch her friend Deena after the finish line so we could all take a picture together.

Mommy told us how Deena is super fast and inspires her every single day.

She even ran into her last year when she ran the Carlsbad 5000 All Day 20K. Mommy’s recap is here and she even has a picture with the same silly gnome. Funny, huh?

We made our rounds to say hello to everyone afterwards.

Our first stop was the Pro Compression booth to visit the super nice Suzanne.

We really want them to start making kid size socks. For now though we’ll just keep wearing Mommy’s.

Then we picked up our cool shirts

and got our hydrate on with some healthy Good On Ya Organic sports drinks.

We love these drinks and Mommy loves them too since they’re all organic and have 5 grams of sugar or less. She is not a fan of those other sugary sports drinks. Her favorite is the lemon flavor and it only has 1 gram of sugar.

She only grabbed one bottle, but now she’s mad she didn’t ask for a couple more. She’s got to find a place that carries them so she can go stock up now. She’s thinking they’ll be a great drink to take to work too now that it’s warming up a bit.

We had to stop and see our Hoehn Motors friends we met last year. They are the nicest people ever.

Too bad they don’t want to let us borrow a minivan or something for a couple months. Ha ha.

(That’s Joaquin’s “when are we going on the jumpy?” face.)

And we’re out for the weekend.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Thanks for being a part of our lives and for inspiring us every day! Hope you get some quality family time, lots of hugs and laughs and some fun Easter treats!
