The Last 24 Hours and 26.2 Miles

Actually it’s not just the past 24 hours, but the past three weeks have been amazing. So much has happened and I’ve had so many incredible and memorable experiences. I can’t stop smiling.

We had a bit of a last minute adventure come up and the boys and I ended up having the best time ever together.

On top of our incredible bonding time and getting to stay in a fun hotel together I got to run the OC Marathon this morning. I’ve never ran it before as in the past it has fallen on the same day as the Safari Park Half Marathon. I’ll write a full review and recap of the race itself because it was a really great one and if you’re in Southern California you should definitely add it to your list (they have a half marathon, a 5K and kid races also).

But for right now we’ll just recap a bit of what went down beforehand.

We made it up to the expo yesterday afternoon. It was $7 to park at the OC Fair and Event Center, but that’s okay. The expo was worth it.

We were in and out of there rather quickly. I had intended on just picking up my bib and shirt and walking right through, but as usual I had to make a few pit stops.

My first pit stop was at my favorite sunglasses booth. Oculus Eyewear is the best.

I don’t have an affiliation with them, but I’ obsessed with their sunglasses for running. The price is right ($20-25 a pair or so) for polarized glasses that don’t fog and are just awesome. They showed me yesterday how the frames can bend and go right back to their original shape.

These ladies just rock and are the best mother/daughter team. I was given a pair of the brand new ones they just came out with that have white frames and purple lenses.

They don’t have a website yet, but  you’re in need of some inexpensive awesome running sunglasses you can email Emily at emelizajo22@gmail.com .

The next stop was the Halo booth.

(By the way I love my Run With Perseverance tank top.)

As we were making our way to the exit I spotted the KIND bar booth and had to tell them how much I love their bars. They were handing out samples of my favorite Strong and KIND Roasted Jalapeño flavor. I lucked out.

The boys spotted a spinning wheel and we had to stop.

Looks like we’ll be eating at Wahoo’s very soon. Woo hoo!

I checked out these new IceSleeves that seems so awesome.

I’m so bad about icing and they say icing is good even if your not sore.

2015-05-02 17.03.01

This guy must know his stuff. Ha ha.

Oh and Pro Compression was a must stop.

2015-05-02 17.07.07

And then we were out.

2015-05-02 17.10.27

We thought these guys were hilarious.

2015-05-02 17.14.26

So hilarious in fact that we had to recreate the scene.

2015-05-02 17.14.39

They did a pretty good job huh?

I got my race stuff ready at the hotel and set out my new shades I just got.

I had to try out one of those new Mizuno skirts and give the tank that stayed safely under my awesome jacket at the Boston Marathon where no one could see it one more chance.

We were on the search for some gluten free pizza for dinner and the fabulous Katie was nice enough to join us.

2015-05-02 19.58.00

And then we turned in for an early night.

It was this exact moment when I looked over after we had just finished Good Night Gorilla on my phone when something just hit me.

2015-05-02 21.23.12

I knew I was doing just what I was supposed to be doing and so honored, grateful, blessed, etc. to have the opportunity and chance.

These guys are my life and everything else comes in afterwards. Being a good mama is number one always and that’s what matters.

And today’s race was brilliant.

2015-05-03 09.35.24

Just brilliant.

2015-05-03 09.36.28

I got to run with some awesome friends and cross another finish line.

I finished and got back just in time to take the boys swimming and to lunch before our long drive home.

Today has been the best day.

The schedule in finally a bit clear, real rest that lasts longer than a few days is finally on the agenda and we’re celebrating with our favorite kind of date night that includes Modern Family, Filippi’s  Pizza and cheap wine.

Race recap coming soon, but finding as much down time as possible this week and focusing on family (and more laundry).

Smile

Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

what a 24 hour stretch! This is one of those times it feels unreal right? How was it only yesterday that I ran? I felt like that on the day of my race too! Looking forward to reading the recap :) I love the description of brilliant, that word is not used enough :)

Thank you so much for sharing the link to Oculus! I have trouble finding hats ans sunglasses to fit my head and I feel like these would probably work with how flexible they are. I’m going to email Emily today :) I also love this non-recap race weekend recap! I’m about to fly by the seat of my pants in Duluth next month as I’ve been working through knee issues, so this was a good reminder to enjoy the journey!

Seems as though you are feeling much better! So glad to hear it! :) I would absolutely love to race back to back marathons some day, but I think I would have to build my milage up to a higher amount before hand. Do you have any tips for how to accomplish this goal?

    MILF Runner says:

Three marathons in two weeks. If you’re looking to put off hip surgery as long as possible you might want to rethink your strategy. I think it’s awesome you still CAN do it but you might consider spacing things out to prolong the journey.

    Dolly says:

Sorry to dive right in on the dogpile, but what are you doing? Was there really a need to run a third marathon in less than two weeks? Are you trying to make up for the few weeks you couldn’t actually run?

I think you have tremendous running talent, but you are grinding your body into the ground.
