Finally Facing Fears, Running Fun This Weekend and Flash LOVE Giveaway

Hey hey!

I’ve faced some serious fears this week.

The first one was finally attempting a little speed work on the treadmill. I hadn’t done any type of speed work yet this year I don’t think. The whole return of the injury, the torn labrum and the hip dysplasia again really threw me for a loop.

Not to mention I still feel like I’m recovering a bit physically and emotionally from the marathons last month also. But, after taking it super easy for the past four weeks I was ready to get a plan in place and dabble a little with some real training.

By taking things easy I’ve let myself fall deeper and deeper into this hole of fear and doubt and just not having confidence that I’ll ever be able to run again the way I want to. I’m not entirely sure I ever will and if that’s the case then I’m all about taking up recreational biking with the boys, but something is telling me it’s not over just yet.

Long story short, I have one day of intervals for the start of this training cycle. Holy smokes was I scared and nervous and really didn’t want to try them, but I did. The first one wasn’t so bad, so I went for the other three that were on the plan.

Here’s how it went down and to be honest I’m still a little in shock I pulled it off.

2015-05-27 20.55.01

I really feel like I’m starting all over and I have a lot of work cut out for me. I’ve just let myself get too comfortable with the slowness and not really being confident in my running or having the fight I used to have.

Well, it’s time to bring it. If it’s not meant to be then that’s okay, but I’m not letting fear hold me back anymore. It’s been WAY too long. It’s such a great thing to just let go and get uncomfortable and just truly see what you can do. There is so much out there and so many of us are made for so much more than we let ourselves really try for. Let yourself have that moment where you decide to really go for what you want. Don’t let fear get in the way.

Those are some good quotes aren’t they?

I conquered another fear just tonight. We gave the cats a bath. I wish I was kidding when I say that it scares me, but I’m not. I usually get a little roughed up and tonight was no different. But, we do have two clean hairless cats that were not in the mood for photos. Here’s a “before” shot though.

There’s a lot going down this weekend with the SUJA Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon on Sunday.

We’ve got a Pro Compression shake out run Saturday morning that anyone is welcome to come to.

Our little one last year was awesome!

Those pumpkin protein muffins I made the other day came out all right. I’ve been eating them on the go in the mornings and will get that recipe up tomorrow.

Obviously there’s peanut free NuttZo involved when there’s baked goods.

Here are a couple of really important things to leave you with:

THIS lady is a rock star. I want to be a slow, long distance version of her really, really bad. What an inspiration!

Read the story and see the video here.

Also, just in case you’re not in Instagram, this is one of the best looking trophies I’ve ever seen. You too?

Mrs. Stuftmama Your the Best. I can’t tell enough how much I enjoy reading your blog everyday. I have learned how to be creative with ingredients because of you. I love reading your life adventures, your adorable family outings and some of the challenges you deal with i can relate to. Mizuno’s were introduced to me by you. Now i have 4 pairs that I rotate between and have worn out a couple pairs too (which I donated to charity;). One more thing I’d like to add of the many things you have taught me is that If it weren’t for your love for the Love Grown products I’d probably still be in the dark and not even know anything about how great this giveaway is. My family and I love the Power O’s. I have not tried the other varieties yet but after reading your fav. the Mighty Flakes is a must try and its going on my grocery list. I just wanted to say Thank YOU! I read a lot of blogs but yours is one I look forward to daily.

My husband enjoys doing triathlons and has asked me to do them with him. I’ve only been a runner for several years and have a huge fear at failing in a triathlon. I may try it one day but I don’t know if I have that kind of stamina in me.

The chocolate flakes sound great. I’ve heard several people say they were delicious.

    Kathy says:

Seriously, I have never tried Love Grown products but if I was given the opportunity I would want to or LOVE to try the chocolate oats or flakes.

My fear right now: Being content with being me ~ right now ~ at this size, weight, fitness ~ I want to embrace what I can do and not try to be someone else!!

Speed work scares me!!! My marathon training plan has quite a few mile repeat workouts……I have never done them 🙂 Now mind you I don’t run fast- 10.30-11 min miles. But I have kept pace with a friend who runs 9.45-10 min miles. So I know I can run faster. And I did crank out a few 10 min miles during my 10k this past Sunday and I set a new PR!!! I guess I just need to trust myself and go with it!!!

  17. 17

Way to go chicky!! Seriously, chase your dreams and fears. All it takes is putting one foot in front of the other and trusting yourself and the process. My biggest fear is completing my first half marathon at the end of summer. It’s my biggest goal and biggest fear, and I’m just trying to tell myself that I can do it. I will do all of my training and just trust the process. We’ve got this. You’re not alone in your fears! 🙂 xoxoox

    Jill says:

Fear: short speed work. I love a long tempo or 10X800 but as soon as Coach says we’re doing 400s, I panic. I need to let go of that fear and stop holding myself back!

  21. 21

I was scared of trying to run again after 10 years of not running even a few feet! But I did it back in December, and within a few months I was cranking out 7-8 miles!

  22. 22

I love that Ralph Waldo Emerson quote and find it so true. I hold myself back out of fear way too often. I think it’s usually fear of failure, or fear of letting others down.

Current fear: racing a marathon. Yup, I trained an entire training cycle with my running bestie Alicia and I made excuses, too many, as to why I couldn’t run Rock n Roll. I’m just so darn afraid to fail. Like not finish or finish in a slow time, for me. I don’t know how to change my mindset.

Favorite love grown product: chocolate mighty flakes. Hard to keep those stocked at my house. Thanks for turning my family on to such a great product.

    Autumn says:

I accidentially made this comment on another post of yours, I’m losing my mind!! Just ignore it on your previous post! Anyways, I’ve had some pretty fast runs lately, by my standards, yet I have myself convinced that I am going to “fail” or not reach my goals at my race this weekend. Why do we do that to ourselves?! I put in the work, and know I can succeed, I need to get it together MENTALLY!

  29. 29
    Nicole Siewert says:

Scared to sign up for a marathon! Finish my first half last fall, it was brutal but I did it!

  30. 30
    Amber R. says:

I’m scared of the mental struggle it will take to complete a full marathon so I have been putting it off…pretty much afraid I will freak out and not finish training or change to a half marathon at the last minute. BUT this year I am doing this! I’m registered for my first full in December of this year and I am going to start it, finish it and be strong physically AND mentally the entire way! Thanks for the inspiration you provide!

  31. 31
    Angie says:

I’m in love with their oatmeal. I stir in some coconut manna, honey, and sprinkle some cinnamon on top for good measure. So yummy and filling! My 3 year old loves it too!

I’m training for my first half marathon and it’s scaring me! But I’m impressing myself. I could barely run a half mile and now I’m up to 3 miles and feeling awesome. The scary parts are still ahead of me though.

  38. 38
    Cassie says:

My biggest fear right now (short term fear, anyway) is my upcoming half marathon. I know I am very undertrained and I am afraid I won’t be able to do it. If I wasn’t too stubborn to just take it slower, I wouldn’t have a problem with completion, but I always seem to be racing myself 🙂 I just need a little self-confidence and ‘I think I can, I think I can’ mentality, and I know I’ll be successful!

  39. 39
    Kristen says:

The Power O’s would be amazing for my family!

  40. 40
    Jamie says:

I’ve been afraid of decreasing milage in order to increase my cross training. I felt like I would lose a lot of my running fitness and would slow way down. But so far I’m happy with the results and can’t wait to see what benefits cross training brings. Happy Thursday : )

  41. 41

Awww they’re so cute! You’re so inspirational! I need to stop doubting myself with my running- confidence is key.

  42. 42
    Kristi says:

I’ve been scared of taking the leap and starting the CPA exam process. Mainly because it’ll require a ton of studying which means time from my two little guys. I know it’ll be worth it to not only better myself but create a better future for them.

    Erica says:

I can relate to facing fears. So I tore my hamstring last year and haven’t run a marathon since….really wanting to take the plunge and “just do it” but scared that I’ll reinjure as my hamstring bothers me with anything over 20. Thinking I need to just push through and face that fear as it might just be a mental obstacle. If you can do it maybe I can, too. Thanks for the inspiration.

  56. 56
    Julie says:

My fear is that I will try and fail. I do a lot of easy-paced runs because I’m afraid that if I try to run faster and chase a dream like Boston qualifying that I won’t be able to do it. I have a fear because I believe the lie of “I can’t”. I’m working on it though, and pushing through my fear to see what might possibly happen if I go all in.

See, I’m with you – we all have stuff we are afraid of! You’re not alone!

  57. 57
    Sarah says:

I’m afraid of failure. Its so easy to just take the easy path and do what I know even though I know I can do better for myself and my family.

  58. 58
    Melissa says:

Ugh… you’re so not alone. The two that I’m ready to face – not that I have much choice:
Fear of committing to a plan (fitness & nutritionally speaking) because of all the work that comes with playing catch up to where I was, fear of the inevitable change that is coming with having an empty nest this summer!

Those Oat Clusters for the win. Yum.

    Laura says:

    Those oat clusters look yummy!!

  96. 96

I’ve done the long distance running thing and it will always be a part of me, but I really want to focus on getting stronger. As a father, I want to be a bit bigger (muscle, not fat) for when my daughter enters the dating scene especially, and just because strength is so important in life. Anyway, this means increasing my calorie intake which scares me as a former fat kid. Until I get this part down though, all of the strength training I do will be stalled. How about you and I face these fears head on and show them we’re in control!

  97. 97
    Katie says:

My fear is being out of my comfortable routine – home, work, working out, all of it. But, in the last month, I’ve forced myself out of it and I haven’t been this happy in YEARS!!

  98. 98
    Aimie C says:

I faced a big fear last year and ran my first marathon…I did not believe in myself that I could do it, but I did it and I will do it again! My biggest fear right now (and pretty much a theme for my life) is that I am afraid of happiness (sorry, getting a little deep here). I am 20 weeks pregnant with my second child, and I am so afraid to just let it go and enjoy it all…enjoy my life. I seriously think I am afraid to be happy! I have discovered a new lite mantra. Instead of saying, “what if everything goes wrong, or nothing works out?” I am trying to say to myself “well what if everything goes right?! Have a happy Friday, you facing your fears is really inspiring:)

Somehow it’s always reassuring to know that we’re not alone facing the scary/intimidating stuff in our lives! I’m finishing up grad school and am getting nervous about finding a job and actually figuring out what I want to be “when I grow up.” Thanks for the encouragement and can’t wait to hear about what you accomplish!

    Lindsey says:

I’m afraid of trusting the process. I often push myself harder than I should in order to appease the perfectionist voice inside. I end up overtraining, stressed, and, oftentimes, injured. I’m working on being okay with where I am and proud of what I do accomplish. Oh, and I love love grown 🙂
