Free Vega training Plans and an Awesome GIVEAWAY

Free Vega training Plans and an Awesome GIVEAWAY

Well hello. Hope you had one heck of a fabulous weekend friends. I’m a little tired today as a couple friends and I went on our version of an ultimate coastal urban hike. It started out gloriously.

2015-06-27 07.06.14-1

But I have to say that when you hit that half way point about 8 hours in and realize you still have 8 hours back to the car, it’s a little tough mentally (and physically), I actually think it might be harder than a marathon, but I’ll recap later. Don’t worry, I definitely won’t encourage any of you to do it, but I can’t help myself and have to share our adventures.

We finished though.

2015-06-27 21.48.50-1

16 hours and 50 miles and a new mantra of “never again”. Ha ha. Kidding, but I really doubt I’ll ever be doing it again.

This morning the boys and I met up with the amazing Susan, who has always been one of the biggest Flat Kitty supporters ever.

2015-06-28 09.26.13

I love love love meeting up with friends I’ve met through the blog. They are always just as fabulous in person.

Oh and in case you can’t totally tell what my shirt say, here you go.

2015-06-28 12.23.54

I offered the boys a dollar each to do The Stick to my calf. It’s having some major issues at the moment.

2015-06-28 14.38.35-1

They were all about it and I even got a little massage of some sort with a play car. Too bad they haven’t really mastered the skill yet.

Let’s get to more important stuff.

I don’t know about you, but I like to regroup a little bit and focus on the week ahead on Sunday nights. Monday I always try to start new with a new plan of attack.

I’m going to Atlanta in a couple days to hang with the Mizuno crew and run the famous Peachtree Road Race. It should be a blast and relatively cool, yes? Ha ha ha.

The boys and I might do a couple of local events. Road Runner Sports is involved with some fun local events that I just got an email about.

Upcoming CARE 5Ks:

7/11: Relay for Life of San Diego Downtown

“Finish the Fight 5K” is a partnership between Road Runner Sports and Relay For Life to help raise funds for lifesaving cancer research at 5 San Diego cancer institutions, develop valuable education & advocacy programs for survivors and caregivers and provide helpful services to cancer patients and their families. All fitness levels are encouraged at this run/walk, as well as dogs!

10/31: California Labradors, Retrievers and More

3rd Annual Howl-O-Ween Mutt Run 5K reaches out to bring home the loving senior dogs who are left in the shelters alone. Road Runner Sports provides emergency medical care to dogs in need that have been injured or who are ill and suffering while giving them a compassionate recovery. Bring your dog in a costume for Road Runner Sports’ annual doggie costume contest.

They also do adventure runs every Thursday night (when I’m teaching of course). My friends have gone though and they sounds like a blast. All the information on the next Adventure Runs can be found here

Other than some fun run type short runs, I don’t have any races planned and am focusing on the Long Beach Marathon in October. That give me lots of time to get my act together (or try to at least).

This year has been a busy year for me when it comes to races (mostly a bunch of halfs). I typically stick with Hal Higdon training plans as they seem to work for me and help me stay injury free. I am currently using the Hal Higdon for my training for the Marine Corps Marathon in October. This will be my first 26.2 and I’m hoping to just finish. I want to just enjoy the race experience as I heard it is definitely one to remember. I am excited yet nervous for the training in hoping to stay injury free. I am also a huge fan of the vegan products as they work great for pre-and post workout to help with recovery. You are such an inspiration and I absolutely love reading your blog

I have used Vega products in the past. They are delicious 🙂 It just got a little expensive for protein powder. But I still use the recovery accelerator in apple berry- YUM!!!!!

I try really hard to stick to training plans but there are SO many to choose from! This Vega one looks awesome. I’m so excited, nervous and terrified! My goals are to finish strong and avoid injuries. This training plan looks awesome and I will definitely use it to become a stronger runner. I used the Hansons Marathon Method last year to PR in the marathon by over 10 minutes and BQ. It was tough to stay on it for 18 weeks, but totally worth it!

  56. 56

I used one of Hal Higdon’s from his book a couple years ago. I haven’t trained to race a marathon in a couple years now so I’m definitely looking for a new training program to train for a fall marathon. I would looove to have Vega to supplement my training this time around 🙂

  57. 57
    melissa says:

When training for a race that I want to actually race vs. just run, I do prefer to follow a training plan and have used several with success in the past from advanced marathoning, hansons method, nyrr, and those designed by my coaches when I was on an Ironman racing team. I use vega products and have been a fan for years, although i’ve only tried the protein powder and the hydrator so i’d love to get a full line of products to test out.

I haven’t used a race plan. I’d love to try! I want to get faster for me!!

  61. 61
    Erica says:

I usually follow a training plan. After doing several marathons, I pretty much make it up in my head and then put it to paper/calendar. I think you pretty much know what works for your body after you do it a few times. It helps that I join the local running clubs training, too so I sometimes alter depending on what they are doing that week. Currently training for RNR Chicago half marathon…so much fun.

  62. 62

I’m running the NYC marathon this year but I haven’t picked a training plan yet.

  63. 63

I’ve never had a training plan but I’m thinking about getting one for a half marathon in the fall.

  65. 65

I follow the Galloway plan which is 3 runs a week. I am currently trying to add Run Less, Run Faster on top of it (speed, tempo and long runs during the week). My next race is a 5k on Saturday, a 10k 2 weeks later and then Dumbo Double Dare in September before my big race of the NYC Marathon November 1st!

I am running my first ever half marathon in August! I am just getting back into running since having a baby last July. Training plans and some help from Vega would be perfect!

  72. 72
    Kristen M says:

I follow a training plan because I love checking things off. That said, I’ve learned to relax a bit by mixing things up. I used to feel doomed if I did not follow a plan exactly. I’m “off” for the summer with no scheduled races. This spring I ran my first marathon. I would love to train for another, but not sure my family is up for the commitment just yet.

  73. 73
    Jenny says:

I am currently following a marathon training plan that I hired a coach for. My first marathon in November! Eeek! I’m excited!

I ran my first marathon this April (yes, it was Boston!) and wasn’t sure what type of training plan to use. It was difficult seeing as I wanted to be prepared, but didn’t want to compromise my health in the process. In the end, I used two training plans and would interchange certain runs from each plan into the week. This was super helpful not only in preventing injury, but also helped to keep me focused! Most importantly I think listening to you body is a major training plan in and of itself.

  94. 94
    Shawnie Watson says:

I’ve followed the couch 2 5k training plan and I just started a beginners half marathon training plan this week! I plan to do a night 5k run called night moves in September and either the Columbus half marathon in October or the rock n roll Pittsburgh half marathon in October.

I sort of followed a training plan for the San Diego half—and then stopped following it–and had a PR..go figure! I love Vega products and can’t wait to download all of the free training stuff!

Vega products rock! I used them daily to help with my performance. By far the best product I’ve found! I’m training for the Sioux Falls SD marathon in September. I definitely have a plan in place – the same one I used last time I ran this course and got a PR. Looking to PR again!

  105. 105
    Tracy says:

    No training plan or races. I just run and cross train to retain my sanity ( ;

  106. 106
    Kayleigh says:

I usually have a plan that I follow that is tailored for a goal race and then start a new ‘cycle’ after that race, but I tend to vary them and add my own tweaks and things to fit my life 🙂 I just ran my first marathon last month, and it went well so I’m hesitant to mix it up tooooo much. Haven’t had too much of a chance to try Vega products though, so hopefully I win something for once 🙂 ha ha

I have followed Hal Higdon’s half marathon plan for my last half but am looking for something new for my fall half!

  108. 108
    Lexa says:

I have not followed a plan myself but I was a running buddy for a friend training for a marathon, but that was almost 2 years ago. I have 2 5Ks and a10K in August and just started running again on a regular basis after having my second daughter.

I’ve always had luck following Hal Higdon so I’ve never tried anything new! Right now I’m training for my first duathlon!! Scary!

  111. 111
    Dawn says:

I followed a mileage training plan last year when training for my first half marathon (which I didn’t get to run due to an injury during taper week!). About to begin training again for the same race. Historically “skeptical” of supplements, but excited to try Vega!

  112. 112
    Joy says:

I always have to follow a training plan for a race because otherwise I run junk and don’t get in those tough hill or speedwork workouts.

Thanks for the chance to win!

  113. 113
    Kristen says:

I loosely followed a 10k training plan once and I’ve recently started running again so I (very loosely) used the couch to 5k app.

You’re such an inspiration!! I have used Hal Higdon training plans for the two halfs I have completed. My last one in April was good but not nearly as good as I had hoped, so I have signed up for two in the fall. The training plans and Vega products could come in very helpful if I won!! 🙂

    Brittany Koelmel says:

I am a fan of the Hansons training plans and used their half marathon one earlier this year. I’m training for a half in October and another in December. I’d love to win this prize to help me get there. Until then it’s just 5Ks because it’s hot out!

  122. 122
    Rae says:

In the past, I’ve followed Hal Higdon’s running plans for half marathons. I’d like to focus more on consistent strength training and yoga. I’m getting over an injury and realized I didn’t have enough balance in my exercise plan. Would love to try more of the Vega products!

  123. 123
    Rene' Whiteley says:

I have three more tries (sprint) this summer and maybe a fall half marathon. I have a coach which is nice so she spells everything out for me. I love the Vega products that I have tried, and would love to try a few more.

I always ROUGHLY follow a plan… never been super strict about it though 🙂

  125. 125
    Alea says:

I really love using Bart Yasso’s Intermediate Marathon Training Plan. I like the progression of long runs and the simplicity of his plan. Plus Yasso 800’s, enough said. As for supplements, Vega Protein in the Chocolate or Mocha flavors are the best! They do not taste chalky like other plant based protein powders. The Protein Bars are also fantastic (chocolate mint!!!!). I am hoping to improve my half marathon time by 3 minutes to join the 1:35 club. I am working on strength training much much more this year and I have already noticed a difference. By the way, your blog is awesome!!!

  126. 126
    Cassie says:

I followed a plan for my first half marathon, and now for other races I roughly follow a plan. I bet I could beat my best time if I really stuck to it though lol

I usually follow a training program when preparing for half marathons. Sometimes I adjust it based upon my work schedule, but I find it helps to stick to a program. I am running my first half marathon this fall and I’m using a training program to help me get ready for it!

  131. 131
    Allyssa says:

When I trained for a half marathon with my mom I followed her training plan with her. I was fairly new to running longer distances so it was nice to have something to help guide me! Plus having my mom there too for support was also nice 🙂

    Bethp262 says:

My next race is a 6-hr trail race…it’s a 10k loop as many times as possible in 6 hours! I’m not sure how technical the course is but if it’s not too bad, I want to get six loops in.

  133. 133
    Stephanie says:

Vega rocks!!! I have not tried all of the products in the picture, but I would love to try them! I feel so much better before, during, and after my runs if I fuel properly! 🙂

  134. 134
    Amanda S. says:

The last time I followed a training plan ended up with my body not being ready for a full marathon. It was a plan based solely on heart rate zones, and while I’m sure some people benefit from this type of training, I do better with a more overall approach (how I’m feeling, breathing, etc.). I’m open to new plans though!

  135. 135
    Jordan D. says:

I’ve never followed a training plan, mostly because I haven’t had to prepare for a major endurance event like a marathon. I wish I was a better runner, I feel like it would be so cool to say I ran a marathon.

  136. 136
    Jung says:

Tried a running coach and the Hal Higdon plans. Trying the “easiest” advanced marathoning plan, which is still more mileage than most mainstream marathon plans, but need to try something different

I want to always beat my best 🙂

  138. 138

  146. 146
    Nikki says:

When marathon training I usually follow Hal Higdon’s Intermediate program but very loosely. Mostly for weekly mileage and scheduling my long runs. I’ve always wondered if I was more diligent with following it, if it would make a different with my results!

  147. 147
    MelissaC says:

I have “loosely” followed a training plan for a little bit, but ended up making up my own and being consistent and smart about mileage (I was working towards a half marathon PR). I did well, hit my PR I wanted (yay!) but could have done better with more speed work and a few longer distance runs in the last few weeks. Not currently training for any races at the moment.
