Weekly Running Round Up

I went on my longest run for months on Friday. It was 16 miles. I forgot how great the therapy aspect is of doing a long run by yourself. It’s a struggle and always is, but man is it some great thinking time.

Oh and I knew I had to power through it because I had one heck of a send off.

You do NOT want to disappoint these guys.

When I got home I noticed this cactus flower we’ve been watching. It finally bloomed after the boys and I have been checking on it daily.

Sometimes it’s the little things, isn’t it?

I didn’t run at all yesterday, but met my friend for a quick boot camp session at the park. Other than that my cardio was cleaning closets.

I did get try to get a few extra weighted lunges in later in the day. We were playing forest rangers and they hid while I did my lunges and then I had to try to catch them.

They found the sunglasses for me and insisted that I wear them as part of the game. It took us a little while to figure out that the sticker was still on and that’s why I couldn’t see very well. I’m sure it had nothing to do with the fact that the sunglasses were freebies.

My forest rangers meant business though.

Today I got on the treadmill first thing in the morning. Actually that’s not true. I fed the cats and prepped some Silk almondmilk cubes so I could make protein ice cream this afternoon.

2015-07-12 07.48.26

Oh and random, but someone asked me what kind of protein I use and if I really want the ice cream super creamy and thick I use Quest Nutrition protein powder. They have a ton of flavors to choose from and the ice cream comes out so darn thick and creamy.

The run went by rather quickly though since I had a cute movie to watch.

“And So It Goes”. So darn cute. I actually just got off the phone with Mom and told her she needs to see it. While I watched it I managed to fit in 11 miles and get my shin sweat on.

Lovely.

I think my mileage total for the week was somewhere between 55-60 miles. None of it was speed work or intervals. I copped out on those and kind of feel guilty. But, that’s the most miles I’ve done in very long time.

Oh and I just registered for another race. The only other race I have on the schedule coming up is the Long Beach Marathon and things were getting too quiet around here. Ha. Kidding, but the AFC Half Marathon is the very first half marathon I ever ran back in the day (I think it was 2005 or something). I guess it got me hooked. I’ve run it quite a few times. My first blog recap was in 2011 here. One time I even placed 3rd in my age group. That was fun. It was also my first race back after my first little hip dysplasia and injury thing.

So I guess it’s only natural that I sign up again. It’s five weeks away from today and it’s so nice to have a wonderful race so close by and it gives me a little extra motivation to get my bootie on the treadmill in the mornings.

Smile

If signing up for a race isn’t motivation, well, this article that Coach Jason sent me might be. He told me that I was the subject of an article that he just wrote and this is what he sent me.

I’m not really sure how I feel about this. Maybe the title is my favorite part. Ha. I know I “waffle” a lot, but as many excuses that I do have I just don’t know if I want the extra pressure right now. I don’t really think I’m as talented as I was a couple of years ago. Who the heck knows.

Anyhoo…..

Road Runner Sports has all the new stuff on their website. This is just s screen shot of the Mizuno goods.

On my first visit to Road Runner Sports when I got my custom insoles and everything I got my first pair of the Wave Paradox, but now they have a Wave Paradox 2? You’d think I would have learned that in Atlanta. I guess not. Ha.

I also just noticed that they have a big variety of things that are on clearance at very reasonable prices.

I may have to do some Back to School shopping on there. Random, but I do the majority of my shopping these days online. I can’t be the only one, can I?

Oh and I have a giveaway coming up for a Road Runner Sports Gift Card so stay tuned! Woo hoo!

I have a lot more to chat about and a gift card to give away, but I need to finish up a few things around here at the moment.

Just like our little flower I’m closing off for the night.

Wait, let me give you a better shot of it.

2015-07-10 17.16.43

I want to take one Monday like nobody’s business and make it fabulous. For me that takes a little prepping and planning so I better get to it.

Smile

Hope you had a fabulous weekend!

Any thoughts on that article? (Just because I’m not sure what mine are.)

What do you do to prep for Monday if anything?

Well duh, “It’s the obstacles that lie within us that prevent us from meeting our potential”…..and yes, that pertains to becoming the better athlete for sure but, I don’t know if what lies with in us was the cause of not being selected to be speaker at a gala or having your book published.

To me ~ Jason is good. If he is not selected to speak than it wasn’t the fault of something within Jason ~ the event just decided to pick someone else. He did his best. Similar to wring a book. He WROTE a book!! Many only wish to do simply that. He did it. Yes, some got published and some may not have but HE did it.

Does he consider that to be failure on his part? I am not sure.

Regarding your choice….of course, many obstacles stand in the way of accomplishing many things daily. But, because we let those obstacles prevent us from following through with what ever task doesn’t make a failure but simply made the task at hand more important to the person at that given moment.

And maybe I totally failed to get the point…..ha! I have failed at many things over the years….many obstacles within have prevented me and still prevent me but I have also succeeded at many things so I guess my success have been in the areas of my life that truly mean the most to me.

Kristin right now it seems your job and family are your priorities….maybe some day running will be though.

Oh my gosh your rangers are so freaking cute. It’d be hard to go for a run and leave them, but I am sure a send of like that helps.

We need to chat K =). too bad I’m not running AFC. I’m in… no I was in the same boat as you… before I picked up some coaches to help with my next big run. You need to get the book MindGym… actually when I’m done reading mine…which is soon, I’ll send it to you!

I like how he says you are talented and is encouraging you not to be afraid !

Coach Jason seems like a good coach! There is a little thing called “self sabatoge” that we all are guilty of. If you doubt yourself, you might start taking actions that undermine your performance, unwittingly. Then, when things don’t go as planned, you can sit back and say it was because of “x” or “y”. Racing to ones potential involves taking a risk – “am I fast enough? Can I train and find out if I can meet a goal?” It requires suppressing the “fun” (long runs and completing random marathons!) parts of running sometimes and putting in the “work” (doing speedwork an limiting non goal races). I think he is paying you a compliment (talented runner) but also telling you to get you head in the right place if you want to improve your race times. Tough love as they say. Great pics of your boys BTW!
