A Getaway, Retired Shoes and Working it Out With My Kiddo

Happy Friday!

I went on a little 24 hour getaway this week with my college roommates to celebrate 20 years since we first met at Cal Poly SLO. Holy smokes we’re getting old. But, the friendships remain the same. It’s so funny how we all have gone through so many changes, but still remain the best of friends after all these years. Even if we don’t talk to each other for a long time, once we do it’s just so easy and normal. You know what I mean?

We even got to get in our old dorm rooms and everything. Talk about bringing back memories.

Now.

Then.

So crazy. He never like me back then even though I really wanted him to. Ha ha.

Anyhoo….

Obviously our road trip needed at least one Starbucks stop.

I packed a whole bunch of snacks for a short 24 hours, but that’s what I do. I hate getting stuck on a long road trip and starving. This Combat Crunch cookies ‘n’ cream bar was mighty delicious.

I had my standard Strong and KIND bars too and randomly picked up this EPIC bar.

My friend said it smelled like meatloaf. I didn’t think it tasted that great, but I’m not really one who like meat in a package like that anyway.

I took two days off of running and exercise just because it wasn’t a priority during the trip. We needed as much quality time together as possible. I did take a walk after I got home though. Who knows, some day I may have to become a walker anyway. It was more enjoyable than I had anticipated.

I’m pretty sure the cats missed me the most. Kidding. Who can’t love a face like this though?

After two days of not working out at all I was ready to take on the heat and sweat yesterday. I did 12 miles to retire this pair of Mizuno Wave Inspire 11 shoes.

It’s always a little bitter sweet since each pair of shoes carries along so many memories and trials and accomplishments. I never get rid of my shoes right away once I retire them. I don’t do long runs in them anymore, but I clean them up and they become work shoes for teaching PE.

Once they’ve really been put through the ringer I donate them.

I taught spin last night too.

Today I got out the door for a quick little run. It was really exciting to put these on and I had to get all matchy matchy for the occasion with my Pro Compression low socks.

I also finally got a strength session in. I try to do at least one or two on my own each week because strength training is so darn important. I got about 30 minutes in of basic exercises today. Judah joined me for the last couple of minutes. He came in and said “Can I work out with you Mommy?”

I said yes. He picked up the 3 lb weights and started his routine while saying “I’m going to be so strong when I go to kindergarten.” Too cute, right? Here’s his little routine he did today on Instagram.

The big IDEA World Fitness Conference is going on all this weekend. It’s my favorite of all conferences to go to, but I just couldn’t leave the family for another trip this summer to do it. A couple of years ago it would have driven me nuts to miss out on any part of the big event and everything and all the blogging and social media fun, but I’m so darn content staying home with the family this year. Things have changed and it’s all about priorities. Hopefully I’ll get up there next year as I always learn so much new stuff to bring back to my clients and classes and everything, but for this year I’m just going to look through all my notes form previous years and find things I may have missed. Sounds like a good plan, yes?

We’re having the family over for pizza and possibly a backyard tent camping thing tonight so I better get a move on. We’ve been doing our kind of pizza lately and I’m back on the meatza pizza and zucchini pizzas. How did I go so long without them? I smashed a chicken breast down as flat as possible to make a chicken pizza last night.

The boys had fun helping me smash the chicken breast and picking as many peppers as possible.

That’s Joaquin’s spicy face. Ha ha.

Tonight’s pizza will be a little different since we’re ordering Papa John’s online and having it delivered (Judah’s big party plan).

Here are a couple things to leave you with.

The giveaway for the $50 Road Runner Sports GIVEAWAY is still open until midnight tomorrow.

Enter here.

We’ll actually be at Road Runner Sports tomorrow to pick up our race stuff for the kid’s race at the Bolt to the Q on Sunday. The boys ran it last year (funny that that recap post talks about pizza too) and had a blast so we’re doing it again. I’m just running the half mile with them and not doing the 5K or 10K or anything. We’re on a budget. He he.

Maybe the boys will be a little more friendly with the Charger Girls this time.

Ha ha ha. We’ll see.

Oh, AND……

Vega just announced this super cool contest where you can win all these amazing prizes!

How cool is that? Seriously, you’d be SET! I can’t imagine a $1,500 gift card, an entire year of Vega products AND a Vitamix. That would be AMAZING!

You can check it out on the Vega Website HERE.

I just got notice that the tent is all set up. This should be a blast. The last time we camped in the backyard I got less than 2 hours of sleep because it was so uncomfortable. Lovely.

Have a great weekend!

Jody, I do like them. Not the best or anything, but great tasting and good size for the calories, etc. I definitely stocked up at GNC when I was there. He he.
