Since We’ve Last Chatted……

 

Obviously there hasn’t been a lot of blogging going on around here. There has, however been a lot of living in the moment and that’s exactly how it should be. I feel like I have so many things to share and talk about, but we’ll do the CliffNotes version of things.

Let’s talk workouts and runs first.

All of my runs during the week are short. I just can’t get myself on the treadmill as early as I like to have a significant run done by 5:45 in the morning. I try, but it just doesn’t happen.

So when Saturdays come around for my long run I take them pretty seriously.

Last week I let Smitha convince me to meet her at 4:00 am to fit in 18 miles before I had to sub a couple classes at the gym.

It actually wasn’t too bad, but I was toast for the rest of the day.

Yesterday was my last long run before the Long Beach Marathon in two weeks. I ran a little over 23 miles along the coast.

I’m getting ridiculously slower by the day and this training cycle didn’t really turn out the way I had envisioned it in my head, but priorities have changed and I’m okay with that. I love running and without the added pressure to really want to get faster at the moment I feel like I have more joy in really wanting to run. Hopefully my mojo and desire to get faster again will come back, but for now I’m pretty content with just finding the time I can to run.

I’m still teaching classes a couple nights a week and doing some home strength and cross training. If I’m at the gym though I try to fit in as much as possible. If that darn stairmaster is open I get my bootie on there to finish off the workout for 10-20 minutes.

That new Ab Carver is the bomb. Seriously I love that thing. This is pretty much how it goes down (video link from instagram complete with a cat cameo at the end) when I use it.

My darn race recap page hasn’t been updated for probably a year, but I do have some races coming up that I better get down in writing (for myself mostly before I forget).

October 11, 2015 – Long Beach Marathon

November 15, 2015 – Silver Strand Half Marathon (I ran this pushing a double stroller three years in a row just a few years ago. Man has life changed. The last recap is here though.)

November 15, 2015- Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon (This is a maybe. I haven’t quite figured out logistics etc. so it may not happen.)

January 17, 2016 Carlsbad Marathon

April 18, 2016 Boston Marathon

April 24, 2016 Big Sur Marathon

 

Heck yes friends I registered for Boston again. At the rate I’m going my qualifying time might be slipping away so I better go for it while I can, right? I always get so nervous when I register for this race since they don’t tell you right away if you’re in or not.

I got the acceptance email the other day and it was the most fabulous feeling ever. I immediately registered for the Big Sur Marathon afterwards. I registered with the Team For Life Charity to help raise money for Cancer Research. I love being able to run for a cause that I’m passionate about and help others. We lost my father-in-law before the boys were born to pancreatic cancer so raising money for Lazarex Cancer Foundation seems like the perfect fit for such an already meaningful race.

In other non running related news, we’ve been working a lot on reading and writing around here. Joaquin loves to draw and create awesome pictures of family members.

He’s doing a pretty good job of sounding out words and trying to write them on his own. Unfortunately his favorite word to write at the moment is “poop”.

Lovely. I was telling Tutu about it and she said that she found that particular word written on her kitchen calendar the other day. Lovely.

I helped him spell “parents” the other day, but didn’t know this is what it was for.

Today’s letter practice was forming letters from the boy’s names with leftover pie crusts.

You know, just trying to make learning fun and come up with as many teachable moments as possible.

Oh and we’ve been reading these awesome books I bought on Amazon called BOB Books.

The boys love that they can sound out the words and read them to me rather than me reading to them. They are fabulous learning to read books.

 

In other news. We’ve been doing the roasted broccoli slaw and roasted zoodles regularly. Zoodles are fabulous with spicy sweet sauce, goast cheese, balsamic vinegar and Chardonnay chicken apple sausages from Trader Joe’s.

I stepped it up last night and made taco pie for the hubs. It had been way too long.

It didn’t look that great out of the oven so no pictures of the actual finished product. Ha.

The boys and I made some gluten free green banana bread this morning. No pictures there either, but I had to Google search to find my own recipe. Pretty funny.

 

I’ve been drinking Vega sugar free energizer before my early morning workouts lately. I drink it iced with a shot of apple cider vinegar. Gives me a little kick to start the day.

Breakfasts have been easy egg white sandwiches with or without chicken sausages on gluten free bread.

Lunches have been so boring it’s just ridiculous. I need to get creative and stick to the awesome meal plan from Coach Elizabeth, but sometimes I get pressed for time and do the same old butter lettuce and chicken salad with zoodles.

What I lack in my fun lunches though, I try to make up with my inspirational outfits of the day. I purposely wear motivational Run With Perseverance tanks and Momentum Jewelry bracelets. I think they’re a hit with my students. I’m going to just keep telling myself that even if they’re not. Ha.

I ordered Mizuno shoes for the boys from Japan. I did not read the fine print about shipping costs and man were they pricy, but the shoes are darn fabulous and are a big hit.

Two thumbs up for being velcro too. We’re still working on staying on the teacher’s good side. Ha.

I always am all matchy matchy for work, but in the morning I grab whatever I can find. Sometimes the socks go together, sometimes they don’t. They get the job done though.

And here are just a few other things to leave with you since I’m not entirely sure when I’ll be back. I really just can’t get myself to sit at the computer after I get home from work and wash all the lunch boxes, read and do a little school work with the boys and try to plan dinner. I’m just done. If I don’t have to run off to teach classes at night all I want to do is get some laundry done and relax a bit. You know?

Anyhoo…..

If you haven’t tried baking eggs yet, you really need to. It’s so easy.

I got my hands on my first purple sweet potato from Frieda’s though just the other day. It came in a package with three different apple varieties and my favorite black garlic. Mmm hmm…

I’m so excited about fall produce. I’ve consuming a little too much protein ice cream lately and it’s about time I traded it out for some wholesome fall veggies and fruit. Bring on the roasted purple sweet potatoes and baked apples and roasted kabocha. It the weather would just drop below the 90’s I’d be even more excited.

Here’s some proof of the protein ice cream happenings. Usually it’s topped with some kind of Love Grown Foods cereal or brown crispy rice cereal (like it went down today).

It all depends on the day and my mood. It’s definitely best enjoyed on the couch though.

And the majority of my time these days is best enjoyed with the family. The training wheels are off friends and the boys are getting a little better each day.

There’s been quite a few spills, but that’s how life goes right? It’s not how many times you fall, it’s how many times you get back up and keep trying.

    Have a great week your self….I have been feeling that time is flying by also. This daily work thing is crazy. Especially when it hadn’t been done in over 18 years!!! Getting back on the train again takes some time to get it all figured out.
