Posting From the Camera Roll Yet Again


And… it’s November.

There has been so much happening over here that I’ve been doing what I can to just keep my head above water (or try to at least). The hubs let me to go bed at 8:00 pm last night (yes on a Saturday night) while he and the boys watch a movie. It was just what I needed. I was so tired and not even from working out stuff, just from life, full time work and Mommy stuff, you know?

I feel 100% better today so we braved tackling organizing toys. Definitely not my favorite thing to do, but it feels so good afterwards. Closets are next so I’m procrastinating for a few minutes before I tackle any of them. Ha.

One HUGE thing that happened recently is that the main man here got a promotion at work. We’re so excited and he’s pretty much going to get to travel the world with his new supervisor gig. The timing is perfect and it was so meant to be, but things are just going to keep changing over here.

For the past few years I had the chance to travel all over and race. Now I’m comfortable back at home juggling full time teaching and being a mom and trying to fit in some running and training when I can.

This coming weekend I was actually supposed to run the Silver Strand Half with the We Run Social crew and then fly to Vegas for Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon that same night. There’s a group doing it and it sounded like fun. Something held me back though from buying the plane tickets even though I’m registered for the race. Two days later the hubs got his new job. So……. I’m running the local half marathon Sunday morning, but missing out on all the “Strip at Night” fun. Two years ago I would’ve been so bummed. Today it just makes me smile because I finally have my priorities straight.


Enough chit chat though, yes? Here comes the camera roll in chronological order which will not make sense at all, but I’m too lazy to move all the pictures around. I’ve been wearing this Momentum Jewelry bracelet daily. It’s so fitting for life these days.

Not to mention I feel really cool when I wear it. Ha ha.

I had my first official conference with the boys kindergarten teacher the other week. They got good reports and she laughed at how different the boys are. She said they don’t even really class. I guess that’s good since they have to hang out together pretty much all the time outside of class.

I’m back on the sugar free train. I avoided all fake sugar for a long time, but lately I’m just not into making rules and the mix of Torani sugar free syrup and dark cocoa powder is just amazing.

Lately it’s been this combination, but I’m just going to be honest and say that I really love Torani sugar free syrups especially the coconut, Belgian Cookie and S’mores. Yup. Good stuff.


My morning runs lately have been anywhere from 5-8 miles. That’s either 2 or 3 Parks and Recreation episodes depending on how much time I have. Ha ha.

The boys and I spend every afternoon together. I do what I can to make done before they get to me because working with them there just doesn’t go too well.

We still have our weekly date nights with Dancing With the Stars if and only if all the school work and chores get done first. Then we sit down for a little reward.

Oh protein ice cream. I’m sure you’re tired of seeing it, but I’m not tired of eating it just yet.

Oh and we never just watch the show, we always have to dance with them. Joaquin is convinced he’s better than the pros.

I dressed up as Dorothy for school. It was the same outfit I wore for Rock ‘n’ Roll Los Angeles 1/2 Marathon last year.

Funny how it was much more comfortable this year to work rather than sweating and running in in. Ha.

My new favorite snack is baby carrots and guacamole. I’m also into diet Snapple lately. Sometimes I mix up some Super Greens with it. Coach Elizabeth suggested it once and I’ve been loving it ever since.

Seriously, simply the best.

In addition to running on the treadmill in the morning I try to get at least two days of a little strength work in afterwards. It’s usually less than 30 minutes with weights, but I like to do big moves that hit more than one muscle group and take less time. This one is a favorite on the BOSU.

It’s a squat with a side leg lift. It’s always the move I start out with. I posted a little video of it here on instagram.

I got to thumb through a magazine for the first time in a really long time the other day and thought I’d share just a few things that interested me.

I’m not good at doing speed work, but I do teach classes with plyometric moves so hopefully that makes up for it a bit. Cool that it can help make you speedier, right?

I Never drink coffee before my morning workout, but always drink it before races. I’ve read that it’s beneficial to drink before workouts. Interesting though that this article says not to have it right when you wake up. I don’t, but I think most people do, right?

Oh and I let fear hold me back all the time from big decisions. Seriously, ALL THE TIME. Failure and putting yourself out there is scary, but I like this scenario question to ask yourself not only what if it all goes wrong, but what if it all goes right? Something to think about. Thanks Jillian Michaels. He he.

We had the opportunity to go to the LEGOLAND California Brick or Treat event last week. We went last year and it was so much fun. Actually, anything LEGOLAND related is freaking awesome.

They have stations set out all over the park to trick or treat at. The treats are pretty good and one stop even had a big LEGO set they were giving out. Score.

We all had had to try the Raptor Climb again to make sure our big wins last time weren’t a fluke. I guess they weren’t. I got a ginormous dog to add to our collection at home.

My only outdoor runs have been on the past two Saturdays. Last Saturday was about 11 miles. I got to test out some purple Mizuno Wave Inspire 12 shoes.

I can honestly say they are my most favorite shoes ever. I’ve been wearing Inspires for years and they are the perfect mix between a little support and being light. Love love love. I don’t know what I’ll do if they ever stop making them.

I think the cats were a little upset they didn’t get in on the Halloween festivities and they haven’t had their pictures on the blog for awhile so they’ve been in my face a bit more than usual.

And pretty much the more tired and hungry we all are, the more red lights we hit on the way. I wish I was kidding. Thumbs up though for living life the best we can. It wasn’t long ago I was spending way too much time writing about how I wanted to live my life instead of actually doing it. These days it’s the other way around and I wouldn’t have it any other way. We only get this time once and I can only imagine it’s going to get busier and crazier as they boys get older so  we’re taking it one day at a time.

Oh and random warning, but don’t put your ankles too close to a space heater. I didn’t even realize this happened until the next day. Oopsies.

Friday night was my first time ever watching a Star Wars movie. The boys have been asking forever so Friday ngiht was family movie night complete with cheap wine and pajamas.

Yesterday I got a long run in outside.

It was 15 miles. I didn’t pay any attention to pace. I never do on my long runs, especially when I’m not really training for an upcoming race. In a few weeks I plan on picking things up, but for now I’m just enjoying the ride.

I hit up Trader Joe’s for my weekly stock up. They have these cool turkey gingerbread kits that I couldn’t resist. I also couldn’t resist the kabochas.

Oh and I got this hot chocolate too. I’m not even sure why, I just grabbed it and put in my cart, but hopefully it’s good.

I haven’t had it in awhile because I think back in the day I had it a little too much, but it’s back friends. It’s back.

And with that, I’m off to tackle closets, make some goals for the week, cook up some frozen Chinese food from Trader Joe’s and call it a night.

I always use Sunday nights to set goals for the week. This question from my training journal from last week still has me stumped.

I’m going to revisit it again tonight. I’m good at making goals for the week, but to be honest I’m NOT good at reminding myself what they are each morning. I need to make time each morning to just remind myself what my goals are and how I’m going to get there. You know?

    Seriously, I have too many thoughts going through my head right now over some of these pictures!!

    Your BLISTER???? OUCH! How could you not feel that??

    Those haircuts….once I read “Dumb and Dumber”…OMG I just had such the flash back….hilarious!!

    Another big stuffed animal?? Where will you keep it? Maybe the cats can use them as beds to stay warm in winter. And, yes I love it being light out in the morning now….but it gets dark here by 5PM…time to hibernate as usual I guess.

    But, my big news…..I had my first purple sweet potato over the weekend. I about died when I FINALLY saw them in the organic section of my grocer. I swooped in like an eagle and grabbed that package without thinking twice. Because if they are good (No great) enough for you I knew they would be worth a try.

    What?!?!!? Your first STAR WARS movie and no review? Did you like it? I can tell you I did not like it the first time I watched it ~ I kind of that “THIS IS WHAT ALL THE HYPE IS ABOUT?” Whatever…..
    Now, that i have watched ALL the movies about 5-10 times each…so sad I know…I love them….can’t wait for the next one on Dec. 18th.

    Hi Kristen!!! I have been a long time reader but just recently joined the blog world. I wanted to let you know that you have inspired me in so many ways!!!! It is refreshing to hear your honesty about running, motherhood, work (I am also a full time teacher), and life. I do think it is true that you can have it all, but maybe not all at one time. I am a new mom (my daughter just turned one!) and it has been a huge reality check that there just aren’t enough hours in a day. My thoughts of what my daily schedule and running would be like while I was pregnant is completely different than reality. But it is so good. I just need a little reminder of that every so often.
