Holiday Favorites

First of all, let me just say that the Trader Joe’s parking lot today was NOT my favorite. Actually, either was our trip to Costco today (the one where I dropped my card somewhere in the store while we were there) or our stop at Party City (for birthday party supplies because I’m a genius and scheduled the boys’ birthday party for the day after Christmas).

Oh and I have just one more and then I promise to get to all the fun positive stuff. Monday night I taught my last class at a YMCA that I’ve been teaching at for over 16 years. I used to teach about 10 classes a week there and in the past few years have dwindled down to 6, then to 3, then to 1 and now none. I knew the time was going to come because I don’t live close and it takes me awhile to drive there and back and it was just getting to be too much with work and everything, but man was it hard to say goodbye to the people who have been coming to my classes for years. I love seeing them every week and they inspire me probably more than I make them sweat and suffer. Ha ha.

I’ll be teaching at a new Y a lot close to home starting on New Year’s Day so I’m really excited about the new opportunity, but man, I am not good with change and goodbyes. I am however good at blocking things out and doing extra walking lunges for the last time down one of my favorite long hallways.

Let’s move on to all the happy holiday stuff shall we?

Running stuff first.

I ran 51.9 miles last week. Most of them on the treadmill in the morning, but none of them fast because I was in survival mode to just get through the week. Saturday I went for a long run (16.5 miles) right as the sun came up. It was in the 30s when I started and since I’m a wuss with cold weather I was freezing. I don’t know how you all do it on the east coast. I got to really test out my Mizuno Breathe Thermo gear though. Thank goodness for that stuff.

While on the treadmill though over the last week I’ve gotten to watch a few of my favorite holiday movies.

2015-12-18 05.07.342015-12-21 10.45.33

The only movie I have left in my usual annual line up is Love Actually. That one is a little loner though so I better get ready for some serious treadmill time for that one. I’ve got a couple days. Ha.

We’re officially on winter break over here and couldn’t be happier. It’s funny though how even when you’re on break you feel the stress to get everything done for the holidays. I wish things would just slow down sometimes so we can enjoy it more, you know? I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way.

We’re enjoying all the moments that we can though. Here’s just a few of our favorites.

The Elf Yourself app on my iPad. It’s hilarious. If you haven’t done it yet, do it. The cat video is free. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time.

This picture just made me laugh. The cats aren’t really into letting us dress them up this year so I just take random pictures of them when I’m in the kitchen.

2015-12-14 20.43.23

Oh and this picture which was originally posted on instagram, but I took it down because I just could deal with that potato. I mean really.

2015-12-15 17.38.19

I finally did some holiday baking and made a batch of the best PB2 chocolate chip cookies for the hubby to take to work.

2015-12-16 20.46.03

Man I am out of practice. I used to bake all the time and bake the best cookies. I’m not that great these days. Maybe some day I’ll get my mojo back. Ha.

Oh, this beet hummus from Trader Joe’s is really good. I was adding it to my salads at lunch along with some walnuts and dried cranberries.

2015-12-17 12.39.28

Mmmmm hmm…

Oh and yes, in case you’re wondering, a headband made for a cat can indeed fit on a 5 year old.

2015-12-17 16.08.48

And these reindeer hats are pretty much the coolest ever.

2015-12-18 15.35.28

To celebrate being on break and life changes, I chopped off my hair Saturday.

2015-12-19 12.30.42

It was a last minute decision and I actually told my friend to make it shorter, but she told me she couldn’t do it yet. Baby steps I guess. Ha.

Then we celebrated with this fun cheap wine.

I know, again with the hairless cat in the background. I can’t help myself.

I organized some of my bazillion Puravida bracelets that I recently ordered. I always like to have my bracelets match my outfit of the day. It’s a problem. (I have a code though for a discount if you want to order some bracelets. I can email it and I think it’s for 50% off. Email me if you want it.)

Oh and I don’t know if you’re watching the new Muppet Show that’s on on Tuesday nights, but you really should. It’s hilarious and the boys and I love it. Obviously we all freak out when Beaker is on.

2015-12-21 14.07.17

I was ridiculously excited to watch Live With Kelly and Michael yesterday morning so made sure my run was done and I was showered in time to stuff my face in front of my TV friends.

2015-12-22 09.37.58

Yep. That’s a red velvet protein doughnut from The Dough Bar. They’re a little pricy, but they stay in the freezer well and are so worth it.

Oh and this is my favorite coffee. Starbucks comes out with their holiday espresso every year and I always buy a few bags right away because it usually sells out.

2015-12-23 07.50.46

I should of gotten a few more because we’re down to our last one already, but oh well. Enjoy it while you can.

It’s super easy for me to get distracted and forget about strength training and cross training during this time of year so I purposely picked up a bunch of classes to sub to get it done. Smart, huh?

2015-12-23 09.31.502015-12-23 09.35.39

I got that awesome Beets BLU Bluetooth Scale and love it.

2015-12-23 17.12.30

Not that I’ll be weighing myself much over the next week or so, but it sends the information right to the app on my phone and measures BMI, muscle mass, fat, etc.

And……. my V800 decided to stop charging so it went to the Polar shop, but I got this magnificent little gadget in the mail today as a gift for being a Polar Ambassador.

2015-12-23 17.13.55

It’s the new Polar A360 Fitness Tracker that not only measures your activity and steps, but also has a wrist-based heart rate monitor and a color touch screen. How cool is that? I’m so darn excited.

So cheers to all the current favorites. I’m sipping on my warm Vega protein drink made with Silk unsweetened cashewmilk at the moment and am so content.

2015-12-23 17.24.59

Now I just need to find somewhere to go so I can wear my new Tipsy Elves Christmas sweater.

2015-12-23 17.27.30

Think I can pull it off at church? Yeah, me either. Christmas morning it is!

From our family to yours……..

Merry Christmas to you all! May it be filled with lots of laughter, love, good food, friends and family.

Oh my gosh and I almost forgot, here’s a look back at my favorite video we made singing Jingle Bells a few years back. Where has the time gone?

Jingle Bells- “hey”

Hugs to you all!

Your haircut looks fabulous and your family pics made me smile, as did the hairless cat photo bombs. Sorry to hear about having to say goodbye at the ‘y” but we all know when one door closes it presents another opportunity and your start at the ‘Y’ that is closer is a perfect way to end that chapter. Have a wonderful holiday season and I look forward to hearing about your next adventure(s).

I love your family photos and your hair cut looks fabulous! I have a hard time with goodbyes as well and 16 years of teaching at the same place…that would be really hard for me too! But new adventures and new lives to touch are ahead and I’m sure you’ll love having a shorter commute time. Happy Holidays!
