Why I’m Not Good at the Taper and Auction Items For the Lazarex Cancer Foundation

Hi friends! I realized this past week that I really miss writing on this blog. Not that you miss reading all my randomness or anything, but it’s served as an outlet for a lot and I always get so excited to share stuff. I might just have to pick up and start doing it a little more. We shall see. For now though I apologize in advance for all the randomness that follows.

Since everyone does the whole #tbt (Throw Back Thursday) thing on Instagram, I thought I’d share mine here too.

Man do we miss our sweet dog Turk. We lost him a couple years ago, but Joaquin still prays for him every night and says that he “was the best dog ever”. Oh it melts my heart.

I’m pretty proud of his self made Turk he did last week at school too. I mean isn’t that just awesome?

Boston is in 3 days. For some reason I find that really funny. You know, a good five months ago I was telling myself that The Boston Marathon was going to be my goal race and my big comeback. I was all about seeing if I could find that speed I had a few years ago. I’m not sure what happened, but this will definitely NOT be any kind of a comeback. It’s going to be one of those that I just have to appreciate and enjoy every mile.

I think I was fast back in the day because running with a double stroller was what I did all the time. I wasn’t working other than teaching a bunch of classes and other than that I was pushing that darn thing all around of different daily adventures. Now that the boys are older and I’m working full time and still teaching a few classes at night, well, life is different. I’d like to say I still have time to make awesome dinners for the family every night, but really, the truth is we eat A LOT of dinners from the Trader Joe’s freezer section. Thank goodness for that.

Somewhere along the way in getting ready for Boston I lost track of training. I got in a few sporadic long runs, but nothing where I should have been. There’s always excuses and man I really had a lot this go around. I’m just thankful to be able to go again for the third year in a row. I mean, who gets to do that? I’m one lucky lady.

Everyone else is tapering for the marathon and well, I’m not really doing the whole taper things because I never really did the hard training thing. I’m taking things super easy the next couple of days, but I guess I’m just not good at the taper because to be honest I’m just not good at the training. Hopefully it’s a temporary thing. Wait, it IS a temporary thing and I’m determined to make things different before the TCS New York City Marathon and thank goodness I’ve got lots of time (and a full summer break) before then.

That being said, we’re on Spring Break (finally, right?). It started out with an emergency last minute trip to Nebraska because of my sweet aunt’s passing. I got one run in to explore Nebraska territory, but man every mile was a struggle. Have you ever had a run where your legs feel like bricks? Well, that was one for me.

At least it was beautiful.

2016-04-09 15.09.36

The few runs I’ve had since then have really not been that great either. I got in a final outside run yesterday immediately following my tax appointment (heck yes I left it until the last minute).

Hey, want to know a secret? See my discolored tooth there? It’s dead. It’s been that way since high school. I’m pretty self conscious about it and it used to be really yellow before I started bleaching my teeth. If I ever get hit in the mouth it would probably fall out. Isn’t that lovely? Oh and yes, that Halo hat is super dirty, but luckily you can wash them in the washer and hang them and they look brand new.

Today’s run was back on the treadmill with my Gilmore Girls. I seriously don’t know how I missed that show when it was on TV, but I’m thankful now because I have a ton of seasons to get through. I’m hoping my low energy is just from stress and traveling and such. I have a couple days to get these legs and this mind ready. I do have a good race outfit set though, so at least there’s that. Ha ha.

I have a couple random things to share before I get to some really awesome items to auction off.

I discovered the avocado oil spray from Chosen Foods at the Carlsbad 5000 expo. I’m in love and also in love with their coconut oil spray. There are NO added chemicals or anything. It’s just brilliant. I’m going to start stocking up on all these like now.

I’ve been neglecting my core big time lately. I’m almost a little excited to have a break from running after these next few races to just focus on building up my strength again. Man you can lose it so darn fast. I have been using my Ab Carver though because it does the job in just a few minutes.

2016-04-06 06.08.43-2

Oh and yes, by the end of the week there is a pile of pajamas in the workout room because that’s where I do my early morning outfit change. Ha ha ha.

There was maybe one night in the past two weeks where I had time to just sit in bed and have a little quiet time before actually going to bed. I thought I’d sit down and read a few pages of Coach Jason’s new book The Inner Runner.

2016-04-06 20.27.07

I didn’t get very far, but I did polish off that bowl or strawberry Power O’s and Trader Joe’s tempting trail mix.

I’m not sure about you, but when I travel it’s always comfort over style.

2016-04-10 08.31.15-1

It must run in the family.

2016-04-08 08.34.57

Love ya Dad!

I’m known to bring my own food and such on the plane. This time I made my own healthy coffee creamer by mixing up some Vega essentials shake with water. It was a little difficult to do on the plane, but I made it work.

2016-04-10 10.35.25-1

I taught spin tonight at the gym.

2016-04-14 18.36.00-2

I have a few new songs on my playlist that just rock my socks off. I have to have good music or I just can’t get into it.

Here are my new favorites:

The 1975- The Sound (good for climbing)

Owl City- Verge (feat. Aloe Blacc) (pick ups or sprints)

Kelly Clarkson- Piece by Piece (Idol version) (cool down) *By the way if you have not seen this or heard this you NEED to! Mom and I saw Kelly in concert last August and it was AWESOME!

Okay, so moving on.

The next few days and the next week are going to be nutty with traveling to Boston and then flying home to go back to work and then packing up and leaving again to run The Big Sur Marathon just 6 days later. I’m still trying to reach my fundraising goal and have just a few days to do so before the race.

I’m running in honor of my father-in-law and now also for my aunt. I’m running with Team For Life and all donations go directly to the Lazarex Cancer Foundation. I actually just got an email with how the money we’ve raised is helping patients who have been told they don’t have any other options. Here’s the impact our team has made so far.

I have some SUPER AWESOME things to auction off from my favorite brands and companies.

Here’s the deal:

If there’s something you would like to purchase as an auction item, EMAIL me  at kristin@stuftfitness.com or leave a comment below and let me know what item and how much you would like to donate to the Lazarex Cancer Foundation for the item (retail values are listed). I’ll give priority to the first people who email or comment with the highest bid or a bid that is equal to or more than retail value.

Once I’ve confirmed the winner of an item, he or she will donate directly on my fundraising page to Lazarex Cancer Foundation. Then I’ll get your information and have the items shipped directly to you. Sound good? Good. Great. Grand.

Here are the items. I’ll be posting them on instagram too!

1. Pair of Mizuno shoes. Winner gets to choose the size and what type of shoe. Can choose any model up to $150 value. (There’s are two pairs of shoes up for grabs. My favorite are the Mizuno Wave Inspire 12 and the brand new Wave Catalyst.)

Yours will be full of course and the flavor you want, but it’s getting late and this is the one picture I had handy.

6. Personal card or poster by the STUFT boys. You make the request of what object you want drawn and what wording you want. Retail is priceless (maybe that’s just me though). It will NOT like this.

It will be more like this.

Okay and I’m off.

Time to get ready for the Boston 2 Big Sur Challenge. Ready or not it’s going down. Yikes.

Flashback to my first Boston Marathon after cancelling my trip the year prior because of my injury.

2014-04-21 13.59.24

2014 race recap is here.

And then to last year when I made the trip with my sweet mom (who just had a birthday Tuesday). I suffered through the race, but that trip with her was one in a lifetime.

Have a great weekend! Please email me if you’d like to donate to help these cancer patients and bid on one of the items above. We’ve got $700 more dollars to raise in the next week!
