Facing Fears, Where I’m at With Running and Weekly Favorites (With Some Deals)

Last Sunday I wanted to run to the park to meet the hubs and the boys playing ball. The only way to get there was either a road with no sidewalk and tons of traffic or the back way by the house where that darn dog that bit me a couple months ago lives.

The hubs said if I wanted to get a ride home I had to face my fears. I’ve purposely been avoiding that house for weeks and running an entirely different route. Well, last Sunday I figured it was time to suck it up and face my fears.

Holy heck I was nervous and ran by that house so darn fast, but when I finally made it to the park in one piece and saw all my guys playing ball in the dirt, well, it was so rewarding. I know it’s so silly, especially because the dog was small and the bite wasn’t that bad, but I’m a huge wuss and I’m scared of so many things in life so this was kind of a big step for me.

Hopefully it was just the first step I needed to start facing all my other fears. We shall see.

Speaking of fears, for some reason I was totally scared to go on my first double digit run on Saturday since the Boston 2 Big Sur Challenge. I only had ten EASY miles (that’s how Coach Jason writes it in the plan), but I was so nervous.

They happened to be spectacular though. Every single minute of them. The feelings just come right back of being able to be outside and run freely. It was freaking awesome. It was hilly and slow, but it was awesome all the same.

Today was supposed to be a rest day, but I had to sub a class at the gym this morning. A little weights never hurt anyone though and it actually was the perfect way to start the morning.

So, here’s a couple things on where I’m at with running. I took two weeks off any running per what Coach Jason said. I was thinking that as soon as I started my new plan he would have me doing all kinds of speed work and everything and super tough workouts and a ton of miles a week. I actually told him I want to work hard enough to make me feel like I want to puke.

Well, the plan I got for this first four weeks is nothing of the sort. It’s actually a lot less miles per week than I’m used to. He has me alternating longer runs on the days that I teach my harder fitness classes with super short runs on the days I don’t teach to maximize recovery. My long runs for this month are a 10 miler, an 11 miler and a 13 miler (at Rock ‘n’ Rock San Diego). All runs are supposed to be EASY. He wrote it like that I’m sure to get the point across. He knows me well and knows that I’m not an easily coachable person and that I’m super stubborn. But, I promised him I’d listen because he freaking knows his stuff and knows the whole systematic procedure to get me where I need to be. It’s going to be so darn hard to do exactly what he says, but that’s what I’m going to do. I’m turning over a new leaf. It’s about time, right?

No more 50 mile weeks or long runs for AWHILE. This guy means business.

Tomorrow I’m supposed to kick off week number 2 with an 8 miler. That should get me through 2 Gilmore Girls episodes and give me some time to do core work and stretch before the Monday madness starts. I’m trying to add more core work and stretching these days too.

2016-05-18 06.22.19

The only stretching I usually do is a couple minutes at the end of the classes I teach. Oopsies. We have to change that.

Okay, moving on………..

Yes, we have watched The Sandlot way too many times, which is the main reason why I’ve been meeting the family at the park lately while they play ball.

“You’re killing me Smalls.”

This is from last weekend, but hey, we’re always out to impress when we go to Starbucks.

2016-05-15 11.56.02

But then again, isn’t everyone?

2016-05-15 11.56.15-1

We needed a little pick me up before braving Costco on a Sunday. It wasn’t fun and I really hope we don’t have to do it again anytime soon.

As if Costco wasn’t enough this happen to go down afterwards.

Every mother’s dream.

As you can probably tell I’ve given up a lot of my experimenting in the kitchen since I’ve been back to work full time. I’m all about the quick, easy meals.

Last weekend I took some of the marinated chipotle chicken I bought from Kennedy’s Karne during our pajama shopping day there with a little organic chicken broth from Trader Joes in the crockpot on high for 4 hours.

Then I shredded it and let it sit for about 20 more minutes.

2016-05-15 20.29.56

Um yeah, it was like restaurant style chipotle shredded chicken breast. I made enough for leftovers and ate if for a few days.

I went even bigger and better this week and did the same thing, but prepped enough chicken for the entire week.

2016-05-22 16.39.09

I feel so cool. Meal prepping is so not something I’m good at, but I’m trying.

It’s so funny because whenever I get something super cool in the mail or find something awesome the first thing I want to do is tell you about it. I might have a little bit of a problem. But, hey, hopefully you’ll find something cool to fall in love with too when I share so I will. Okay? Okay.

Through a campaign with FitFluential I was sent a bunch of these Amazing Grass Protein Superfood packets in the chocolate peanut butter flavor to sample and give out to people. (If you’re local and you want a sample email me! I’ve got one for you complete with a coupon!)

The other week Vega had an email about a smoothie that tasted like Butterfinger made with carrot juice so I tried this combination.

2016-05-16 15.40.17

It wasn’t quite like a Butterfinger, but it wasn’t too shabby either. I think I prefer my protein powders mixed with almond milk though.

I was sent this new AppeFIT product from the Vitamin Shoppe. I’ve heard about this new spinach extract that is supposed to curb your appetite and keep you feeling full for hours. I’m pretty much ready to eat any time and on busy school days I’m especially hungry.

I tried it out with my lunch last week. They say to have it with healthy fat to help absorption.

2016-05-19 12.33.54

I just mixed it with my iced tea and drank it with my salad that had chicken and almonds on it. The drink was sweet and a little gritty, but still good tasting. I was worried my stomach would bloat instantaneously, but it didn’t. I also didn’t notice any weird side effects and it kept me from feeling hungry for a good couple hours. I think I might keep it on hand for those days when I really just need something to keep me from wanting to eat all day. It’s pricey, so definitely not something I would buy to use every day, but something that might be good to have on hand when needed.

This amazing box of KIND bar deliciousness came right before the Boston Marathon and I haven’t gotten a chance to dive in. I was saving it.

2016-05-22 15.27.362016-05-22 15.28.51

Um, yeah. the KIND 30 Pack has so many of the amazing KIND bars and varieties. I’m so freaking excited about it. You can buy it on their website here. (That’s where I could find it.)

I’ve got my eyes set on these two flavors to try first.

2016-05-22 15.29.24

I love that almost all of their bars have low sugar and healthy fats. Love love LOVE!

The challenge will be to see if this box can last 30 days. I’m going to have to hold myself back.

I can do it. I can do it.

In other mommy news, Judah had me order this toothpaste dispenser and holder from Amazon after he saw a commercial about it.

2016-05-22 16.16.06

It was only $15 so I was a sucker and bought it hoping it would solve the whole toothpaste all over the counter on a daily basis problem we have over here.

Well, I’m happy to report that it has. This thing is brilliant. It took like 2 minutes to put up and I haven’t had to wipe the counter for a week. The sink where they spit the toothpaste afterwards is another story, but hey, I’ll take it. Thank you Judah and Sunday morning commercials that run during cartoons.

I had another project on the agenda today since the boys shoes were no longer the original color and we haven’t yet mastered the whole tying shoes thing. We need to do everything we can to get out the door in a timely fashion these days and if we have clean shoes and don’t have to mess around with laces that’s one less thing to worry about.

First I washed the shoes with an old toothbrush and dishwasher soap. My college friend told me to do that.

2016-05-22 14.52.21

And then we put the Hickies laces in. Yet another great purchase from Amazon (and was a suggestion from their kindergarten teacher.)

2016-05-22 14.52.27

Last week was a rough one and I’m anticipating that the next few weeks until summer break will be the same. I’m pretty much in survival mode each day. Ha. A little arm candy can sure help the situation though.

It can also serve as a little motivation in life and for a trip to Target when you’re pressed for time and on a budget.

2016-05-21 16.11.28-2

Great reminder, right? We made it in and out in less than 30 minutes, but unfortunately spent a little over our $30 budget. Go figure. Sometimes we’re just lucky to make it out of there in one piece though.

Ha ha.

I love all Momentum bracelets and really love that you can customize the saying for no additional cost. I’m also obsessed with Pura Vida bracelets and having them match my outfit every day. It’s another little problem I have. Luckily I’m an ambassador for both companies and can get discounts.

Here are some of my new favorites from Momentum.

2016-05-22 16.50.31

Here’s my little welcome package I got as an ambassador for puravida.

2016-05-22 16.49.39

These bracelets survive anything and can get wet and sweaty and still look good. Not to mention they have a wonderful story and help the artisans in Costa Rica have full time jobs.

Now the bracelets are worn by people around the world and serve as a tangible reminder to slow down and live in the moment.

You can use code KRISTINSTEHLY20 for 20% off any orders on the puravida website.

Last, but not least, I’ve never really believed in the whole essential oil thing. My plan was to be one of those people who never bough them. Well, that plan has gone down the garbage.

After I starting taking doTERRA vitamins about 3 weeks ago (thanks to my sister-in-law) and buying the Home Essentials Kit and a few other must haves, I’m a believer. They are amazing. These oils are changing our life. I’ve been using them in so many ways not only for myself, but for the boys too. Seriously, who knew?

2016-05-15 20.46.57

This one is a great one for nighttime before bed. I’m trying to take time to unwind at the end of the day which sometimes goes well and other times it doesn’t. But having this oil in the diffuser sure freaking helps.

I have others going throughout the day depending on the situation or mood around the house. I had a close call Saturday night in fact and almost had a scary mommy yelling moment (you know about those, right), but I used this clarity calm on my neck and wrists and took a few deep breaths (and put my pajamas on) and it made a world of difference.

2016-05-21 19.07.40

I’m not sure if you use oils or want to try them out or dabble a bit, but there’s a special promotion that’s been extended and if you enroll with either a Family Physicians Kit or a Home Essentials Kit (that’s the one I enrolled with), you get 2 FREE oil gifts PLUS $50 oil credit AND the Breathe gifts in the picture. All the extra freebies alone are $175 value. Pretty darn sweet.

There are ONLY 5 LEFT so email me with any questions or if you want to snag one up.
