The Last 11 Days………..


When I started this post 4 days ago, the title was “The Last Seven Days….”. Funny stuff. Well, it’s now the past 11 days and holy smokes so much has happened. Yikes.

Last Tuesday night (July 5th) I was sitting here at the computer taking my test for my Revo2lution Running Certification when the hubs called and said he had hurt his knee. It was about 8:30 at night and I was two thirds done with my test. I filled out the rest of the questions as quickly as possible, failed of course since just filling out answers is not how to pass a test and took the hubs to the ER.

Long story short, he had a bucket handle meniscus tear that had folded over under his knee cap locking his knee in a bent position. He was in extreme pain and unable to really move at all for the entire week. He had surgery Monday and they took out the torn part of the cartilage and things are already looking up.


This past week and a half has been rough, but I feel like it’s taught us a lot about how fortunate we are that we have family close by, that we’re healthy, that it’s summer break and that family comes first no matter what. Everything has been put on hold and we’ve just come together to be one heck of a strong family team. Heck yes I’ve barely worked out, I’ve been so exhausted I can’t think straight, the boys have been a mess and I’ve wanted to just sit down and cry numerous times, and just when I thought we had made it through the rough part I fractured my toe last night. Lovely.

I feel like there’s lots to catch up on, but I can’t organize my thoughts, let alone my closets and laundry at the moment so lets just go through the camera roll on my phone, shall we?


These guys are still working on getting used to Bear, but I think it’s brought them a bit closer having another creature around the house.

Oh my word, and my doTERRA oils have come in sooooooooo useful especially this past week. I can’t ell you how many times I’ve said, “thank goodness for my oil obsession”. Ha.

Obviously I have my favorites that I use daily, but Lavender is always my go-to.

My go to oil for diffusing at home especially in the morning in the kitchen is Citrus Bliss.

It’s the perfect blend of citrus and vanilla and oh my goodness it just smells delightful.


I’ve experimented in the kitchen a bit since we’ve been at home A LOT.

I used to do the whole baked eggs in squash thing all the time, but I had to revisit it the other day.

I also revisited sweet roasted spaghetti squash and piled on the berries and Sunbutter and NuttZo.

I really did not do much running at all last week, but I did sub a couple classes at the gym. The boys came with because Andrew needed some quiet time at home.

We decided to give hime some extended quiet time and went to see the movie “Secret Life of Pets”. It was super cute and the first time I had ever seen a movie in 3D.

We’ve been having a lot of bonding time. Ha ha.

When Daddy was down and out I was in charge of all the outside animals.

The eggs aer from our chickens, not the tortoises. Of course while I was in charge one of our chickens died. Sad smile


I kept it to minimal running last week, but tried to fit in a sweat any time that I could. Last Saturday I went on the elliptical at the gym for 30 minutes while the boys took a kid’s fitness class and I spied on them. It was definitely a win win.

They wanted to check out the big boy gym afterwards and since it wasn’t crowded I showed them a few of my favorites.

Someday we will have a TRX at our house. I also got about 20 minutes at Tutu’s house one day while the boys were swimming so before our game od Sharks and Minnows in the pool I ran up the hill a few times.

It wasn’t the long run I had planned for last Saturday, but it was something.


I’m back on the apples with NuttZo Powerfuel and my homemade dark chocolate with cinnamon.

I was sent a jimmyCASE phone cover/wallet to review awhile back. I had never put it on my phone because it was so fancy and I was waiting for a special occasion. Well, the special occasion never happened so I finally just went for it the other day.

On Monday before Andrew’s surgery I got to sneak out for a run by the lake. I decided to back track on my training plan since the last two weeks were shot and I know I hadn’t progressed enough to move to the next stage of the training cycle so instead I started over from three weeks ago to see if I could make it through without any major issues.

That run was a success and so was Andrew’s surgery (they removed a large portion on the meniscus). I was well prepared with all my doTERRA oils though in the waiting room.

Love taking my rollers with me everywhere. By the way, making your own rollers at home is sooooooo fun! Smile 

We’re still doing the soft boiled egg thing too even while Daddy is home recovering (he hates hard boiled eggs). I got creative the other day and put mine on a no grain biscuit like thing.

Isn’t it cute? I have to recreate it again. The biscuit was  2 tablespoons of coconut flour, 1 tablespoons of almond flour, an egg, 1/4 teaspoon baking powder, a pinch of salt and a little water to make the right consistency.


One of the days I thought I’d sneak out for my four mile run while everyone was still getting up, etc.

This guy asked if he could come with me though and be my running partner.

Obviously I said yes and we ran/walked 1.92 miles instead of my 4, but everything about our time together was magnificent.

I got a littl extra workout in later that day when the hubs made me take him to go get some new chickens and not only haul thme where they need to be, but also trim their wings.

He said carrying them down counted as my strength for the day. Funny guy. Obviously he was feeling a bit better (or maybe it was the post op medication talking).

We went out to breakfast as a family once this past week just to get everyone out of the house. We went to Swami’s and if you’re ever in San Diego you should really go there.

I always order the same thing- a veggie omelet with lots of salsa and hot sauce.

Everything has been a little harder than usual lately. Being overly tired and stressed out and worried about people you love wears you down.

I taught my spin Wednesday night and went all out to impress with my baby towel draped over my bike and my sweaty hair stuck to the side of my face. Nice.


I know you know that KIND Bars are my favorite. Well, they just came out with new bars that are just fruit and chia.

They’re perfect for those of you into paleo eating (which we’re adopting more of these days around here). I haven’t decided which one is my favorite though.


So Joqauin was having a bit of a meltdown last night (guess it was his turn since we had already all had at least one this past week). I was walking towards him and smashed my toe on the corner of the fireplace for the second time this past week. It hurt SOOOOOOOOO bad. I knew right away it was not good. I just figured it would be better in the morning.

It wasn’t. It hurt like heck this morning and I had promised the boys I’d watch Belly Brothers on Uncle Grandpa with them so I took it easy and enjoyed my bullet proof coffee.

I didn’t run as it was very painful once I got my foot in my shoes. I did a weight workout at the gym though and them the stairmill for a bit.

Afterwards I got x-rays and it’s most likely a fracture. We’re going to ask the podiatrist Monday, but looks like there won’t be any running this weekend. Dang I’m going to get really good at this cross training business. I might have to get back into pool running. Ha ha.

I drowned my sorrows by eating some NuttZo straight out of the jarand watched a little Real Housewives of New York. I felt much better.

My toes doesn’t even look that bad so hopefully just a few days will do magic.

It doesn’t even look that bad, but it’s about twice it’s usual size. It’s generally just a little nub there.


Okay, so…….

Here are a couple things I really have to leave you with though as I’m promising not to be a Debbie Downer anymore this summer.

By the way, you better believe I‘ve been putting my own oil combination all over my tow every 4 hours (I did the same for Andrew’s knee).

    Sorry you’ve had such a rough time. Sounds like you handled it very well though. Your family is lucky to have you to care for them despite the tribulations. Mom’s always know how to keep it altogether. I’m glad Andrew is on the mend and hoping your toe heals fast. I’ve done that twice and man it does hurt to wear shoes but it healed in about 8 days. Thanks for updating and I always enjoy reading your blog. I have a question about the biscuit recipe….if I don’t have almond flour are there other good substitutes? I have the coconut and oat flour, ground flax, and brown rice flour. I need to come up with some grain free bread recipes and want to try this. Have a good weekend <3

    WOW…sounds like life around here…minus teaching cycle classes, twins, and chickens. ha! (The other part though….people being sick, in and out of hospitals, meltdowns, crying fits and the like I can totally relate to)

    Unfortunately I have totally given up on exercise. In fact, I have gone hard core ~ I have given up every form of exercise except random Pokemon walks with the boy. Eating is my go to and as much as I know every extra bite is wrong, its the only thing that feels right AT THE MOMENT.

    Eventually life will slow down and hopefully get back to some thing I hope to call “normal”. Hang in there..funny how sometimes the “smallest” bruises can cause the “biggest” ouch.

      HI! Oh my goodness, I can chat oils ALL DAY!
